I have been, and remain, amazed that people on here, and journalists abroad, are convinced that there is some kind of national conspiracy to stifle free speech and legitimate journalism.


Let's be objective here - "Tommy Robinson" is not a legitimate journalist, he is an attention-seeking agitating posturing idiot who attempted to flout the law, and got his just deserts for it.

This nonsense that he is somehow being persecuted for 'speaking out' and 'defending free speech' is just that - nonsense.

The man is a fool, and his is in prison because he broke the law.

It would be nice to think that he would reflect on his actual status in the real world, and consider that maybe he should consider the law of the land before he breaks it so arrogantly in the future, but on the basis of his constantly displayed sense of self-importance, combined with his universal levels of self-righteousness, suggests that this is highly unlikely.

At least we are spared his pointless ramblings for the duration of his sentence.

There are two ways of looking at this -

One is that 'Tommy Robinson' is genuinely so self-obsessed and arrogant that he genuinely believes that the laws of the land do not apply to him.

The other is that he pre-planned being arrested, because he knew that this would increase the publicity for his nonsense that he so desperately craves all the time.

Neither of them show him in a good light - but by all means pick one - if you have nothing better to do, and I am sure you do!

Oh the irony. We now have a German MP, yes German, offering political asylum for Tommy Robinson, and expressing concern for his safety whilst incarcerated in an 80% muslim jail. Petr Brystron asserts that he is being persecuted and is a political prisoner. Makes you proud to be British. But it does explain why every revolutionary movement from the Nazis to the Communist's first act was to eliminate the current judiciary and "police" force.

I am willing to concede that originally, 'Tommy Robinson' may have been motivated by a genuine sense of social concern, but I suggest that his ongoing attention-seeking points to the fact that his own ego has utterly buried any genuine social concern he felt, and he is now on a mission to ensure that he can gas away to as many naïve people who actually think he is some sort of political activist and freedom fighter, when in fact he is clearly neither.

A thought - if I was someone who was going to get a seriously hot reception from Muslim prisoners, were I to be incarcerated, and I was already under a suspended sentence, I think I would make seriously sure that any behaviour was not going to bring me into conflict with the authorities in a way which may make my worse case scenario come to pass.


But then, I'm not an ego-maniacal attention-seeking self-publicist with contempt for the law, and the society that lives by it.

If 'Tommy Robinson' wants not be a prisoner of any kind, it's really simple.

Get a job, raise your children, and keep your stupid opinions to yourself.

Since Robinson pled guilty to both charges, breaching the terms of the suspended sentence and contempt of court, I can't understand why folk are questioning the outcome.

Thanks andy...a full and considered response there. But I beg to differ.
Some people (maybe most) have strong beliefs and they would be willing to defend no matter what. Nothing to do with ego or attention seeking, just strong beliefs that you happen to disagree with. Doesn't make it right (or wrong) of course. But there are always multiple ways of looking at things outside of your own belief system.
