I see the Olivers are giving it a go but a lot of older people are struggling. Oddly enough I only use cash in places like bars and cafes etc but it would not be much of a leap to go cashless. I know that Gregorys are on the way out but do you think bangers and mash will follow?

Spath, are you reading what is being written by others? Payment received in a cash app wouldn't go into someone's account unless they chose to put it in their account. It is cash hence the name. They could spend it without putting it into their account.

They would be cash, Spath. If you wish to get rid of cash for tax avoidance reasons that could be another thread.

spath - your friend should have two separate accounts; one for his business and one for personal use.
Well I will leave you thinking that.

Because you don't 'see' and 'feel' the money going, it's all electronic.
You can't get into debt with a debit card though. I agree with you regarding credit cards though.

Ummmm, whilst strictly you can’t get into debt with a debit card, those with debt issues are more likely to spend what money they do have for the same reason, ie they are not using physical transactions.
It is so much easier to see where your money has gone when you spend on a card than using cash.
^ Not for me, it's not.

I prefer to look in a wallet or purse to see how much I have left. Each to their own, for as long as possible.
I rarely use cash. When I do it's usually in shops which charge for card payments. Anyway, this is pure speculation; if it ever comes it will be a long way off, by which time I shall be in that other cashless society called heaven.

Internet and mobile phone reception would both have to be vastly improved first. Neither are currently accessible to all, an essential for a completely cashless society.
There are a lot of drug addicts who have no bank account, they steal and sell their ill gotten gains to make money for drugs, how would that work in a cashless society?
