A child cannot have a genital examination for a broken leg, AOG.
AOG

Yes, true - children do end up in hospital, and children do go to see their GP, but they will be in the company of a parent or guardian. And in any case, think of the practicalities.

A little girl who’s family hail from Burkina Faso taken to hospital after suffering an asthma attack. The doctor would have to take the child away for a vaginal examination. What if the parent or guardian objects?

What if the girl in question is from a family who don’t agree with FGM and wouldn’t subject their child to it?

How would it work?
We should not be looking to implement sledgehammer solutions to complex problems.
If parents had this procedure done on their daughter before they moved to the UK, what should happen to them if and when it is discovered?

I really don't want the situation where parents don't take their sick daughters to doctors or hospital because they are frightened of the repercussions.

I honestly don't know what the solution is.
Yet another reason Islam has no place in the civilised world.
One day the politicians who allowed this to happen

Muslim population of England and Wales
Year Pop. ±%
1961 50,000 —
1971 226,000 +352.0%
1981 553,000 +144.7%
1991 950,000 +71.8%
2001 1,600,000 +68.4%
2011 2,706,066 +69.1%
2014 3,046,607 +12.6%

will pay, inshallah.
sp, //The doctor would have to take the child away for a vaginal examination//

A vaginal examination isn’t required to detect FGM and a doctor’s services aren’t necessary. A nurse could do the job just as well.

hc4361, //I really don't want the situation where parents don't take their sick daughters to doctors or hospital because they are frightened of the repercussions.//

I think that’s already happening.
So do I, naomi.
why are people who believe in such vile practices allowed into the uk
ohh but they are probably all doctors and engineers.
FGM is not exclusively a Muslim practice (those of us who remember the Mau Mau insurgency in Kenya will know that it's a Kikuyu custom also), but it is mainly so. Those who doubt this should read the link supplied by DannyK earlier and look at the diagram mapping the distribution and frequency of the practice (trigger warning: those with weak stomachs should not read the description of Type III FGM):

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Female_genital_mutilation

The discussion of FGM's religious connections is little more than a gloss in Danny's link. Here's a fuller discussion of the religious aspects. Please not the mixed messages given in the section on Islam, and note especially the pargraph on the Sunni view.

Really?

So you understand the different types of FGM right?

Please explain how you detect whether a girl’s clitoris has been cut out without a vaginal inspection.

What are you talking about.

Read up about FGM please.
I'd be very surprised if I didn't know more about it than you, Sp.
We can't control these revolting practices from happening abroad but we could have not imported them in such staggering numbers. (and then, because of people just like you, turned a blind eye the filth they brought with them)
And don't be so rude in future.
its been an offence in the uk since 1985, and as AOG has said, not one prosecution.
Many are taken to the "right kind" of GP but we dare not say so otherwise top trump card comes out. Some of the worst offenders are older women within the families, if that makes me racist, I've been called worse.
Spicerack

FGM is a predominantly African 'tradition', which goes across all religious demographics.

You don't know what you're talking about.
ummmm, the procedures are different by virtue of the differences between the sexes (the female one involving more flesh and, arguably, greater horror) but surely you are not suggesting that mutilating a male child is in principle any different from mutilating (usually) an older female child ?
I do and I also knew the excuses people just like you made for Muslims before you heard of FGM.
But I'm quite happy to block immigration from all other African regions where this quaint 'tradition' is practiced.
sp, FGM is carried out by far, far too many Muslims.
You sound very defensive when it comes to linking Muslims with FGM.

\\Now, spool forward to 2018...it’s died out completely. It’s not the cultural norm. As generations move further away from their cultural origins, what was acceptable years ago becomes alien.//

with all the migrants and refugees flooding the country that may take a very long time.
//You don't know what you're talking about.//

Yes, but I would have thought two Wiki links provided on this thread could fill in some of the gaps, SP.
