If anyone is wondering what the issues are at this moment, I believe is a good summary.
Whatever happens, it will have knock-on effect for the EU and the UK wouldn't you say?

The Grand Coalition works for Germany. The alternative wasn’t going to work.
Obviously it has been not leftist before, and won’t be now.

Really?

I dont think it will have much effect on the EU. The EU is Germany's 3rd attempt at annexing Europe and that wont change no matter who is in.

Where they may have issues is if Merkle refuses to listen to the population and continues with this Socialist immigration policy

The CDU was at one time more like the British Conservative party, certainly more to the right than it is now and has been under Merkel.
The honest way forward would be to call another election, but the thought that it would benefit AfD (the sensible party) even more scares the pants off them.
Merkel is washed up and Schultz is a third rater, but that looks like what's going to happen. The only bright side to that is that AfD would become the official opposition and cannot be sidelined any longer.
The German electoral system foisted on them by the allies after WWII means nobody really gets what they want.
The UK Government was not leftist between 2010-15 during the Conservative/LibDem coalition. The situation is very similar to then, with the Chancellor/PM belonging to the rightist party, and having the most seats.
