You know when the Tories are getting desperate, when they wheel people like Major out. For those that might be too young to remember Major, he was a Tory Leader that led the Party to its worst ever defeat at the ballot box....much forgotten now of course !

Danny....no...no proof but its my firm belief that Major has been wheeled out, to help the Party out in its time of direst need !
Mikey, it's not unusual for people affiliated to a particular party to have a bit of a say, is it? Tony Blair's not been exactly inconspicuous of late. What a drama you make of everything.
Major making an appearance is just as dmamging as when Blair pops his ugly mush up.

Both are has beens who are generally loathed by the public. His speaks great volumes when we get a couple of resident lefties on here praising Major. Something was very wrong.

As for why his deafeat was forgotten, he won Mickey and that is all that matters in politics no matter what Party it is.
//We are no farther forward in our Brexit negotiations, than we were the day after the Referendum last year.//

And we never will be. The EU, especially Junker and Barnier are determined to make the UK suffer one way or another to deter others from trying to flee. There will be no free trade deal but that is a good thing, cut the apron strings and go free to act as we want not dictated too by a load of johnny foreigners.

Yes, YMB...he won, and he made a complete hash of the next 5 years, just to be able to hand the next 2 Elections, on a plate to Labour......wonderful achievement !

I can't see why the Tory Party isn't asking him to come out of retirement and try again !
well you know when Labour are desperate they turn into Tories! QED 1997! PMSL
Mikey, //just to be able to hand the next 2 Elections, on a plate to Labour......wonderful achievement ! //

And what happened after that? Wonderful achievement!!
you fail to recognise that one may be more reluctant to reach agreement than the other

perhaps it was the British who failed to realise this when voting and then setting a two-year deadline? No good blaming the other side jsut because you're failing to get what you want; if Britain fails it will be Britain's fault.

I've got nothing against Major these days and I don't believe for a moment that he's loathed by the public. And he certainly knows what he's talking about when he criticises disloyal colleagues. But when he was in office he took Britain into the ERM and was still in office when Black Wednesday cost the country more than £3bn. So he wasn't a successful PM by any measure.
YMB: "the EU, especially Junker and Barnier are determined to make the UK suffer one way or another to deter others from trying to flee. " - and of course they are ably assisted by our own collaborators.
jno the 2 year dead line is prescribed in A50.
jno, no one is 'blaming' the other side. Simply informing Mikey, who appears to think it's all one sided, that it isn't.
I know, TTT. Everyone knew and they went ahead with it anyway.
//perhaps it was the British who failed to realise this when voting //

Stop being so condescending. People who voted leave are not thick however much you may wish it to be.
The idea that Sir John Major is 'loathed' by the public is absurd.
Question Author
YMB...neither have I intimated that people who voted to leave were thick. But perhaps a little naive, if they thought it was going to be a bed of roses.
And there you go again, who said they thought it would be a bed of roses?
jno: "I know, TTT. Everyone knew and they went ahead with it anyway." - there was not a choice it's written in the rules.
Looks like leavers were aware of that TTT but not perhaps Remainers!!!
but I didn't say they were thick, ymb. On the contrary - I said they knew the rules when they cast their vote.

Now, funnily enough, you're suggesting the Remainers were thick - but somehow that's not condescending...
Possibly all you need to know about John Major as a political animal is that Maastricht was signed up to on his watch.
