agreed ummm, hotels for long stays are not suitable for little ones.
long story short (ish) when working in B&B, we had long-stay guests who had suffered severe fire-damage in their home. The couple were invited to use what ever the guest-house could provide, wash machine, iron etc etc and the kitchen facilities in the evening.
Insurance company were being snitty tho.

Hotels come in many and varied qualities and facilities. Accommodating a family in a single room for a prolonged period is not a perfect situation.
The reasoning and circumstances of all the residents and neighbours is not known to the general public. They will have their reasons for making their decisions even if outsiders without first hand knowledge have different opinions.

I would not exchange the freedom of being able to cook my own lunch when I wanted to having to eat between given hours (bear in mind some are given a food allowance which doesn't touch hotel prices) - sitting on a bad or in a lobby with others walking by all day.
Having my children sleep in a room away from mine, so I couldn't hear them in the night.

Sometimes I am staggered.
These people have lost EVERYTHING, through no fault of their own and have been through a hideously traumatic experience.
Working together the Council, insurance companies, landlords etc should do their utmost to ensure they are re-housed in suitable permanent accommodation asap. If some are in hotels (and I very much doubt it will be the Ritz) that will be awful. None of the stuff is their own, they will have no autonomy and are effectively dispossessed. Jeez, I normally hate staying in a hotel for a few nights, but I always have the knowledge that I can go "home".
I see the milk of human kindness is lacking in some areas.
And I agree Mikey, I hope for some sensible findings of fact so that justice is done.
