... "Vote Labour"

As an antidote to Lord Sugar endorsing the Tories, I give you Stephen Hawking (I know who I give more credence to).

He has reservations about JC (not policies but presentation), but still endorses Labour :

Oh come off it, S-D, intelligent people are all actually completely clueless, and only worth listening to if by some amazing coincidence they say what you happened to agree with...
Question Author
Ah yes - sorry James - I must have been in a parallel universe for a moment there ...
Oi!!! Who are you calling completely clueless!!!.... ;-)
He's good at science.... I give him credence for that.

Sunny-Dave, someone said today that you are voting 'Green'. Hmmm....
Too much time with his head in the clouds?
ag, or on another planet.
Or he's reached a considered opinion that happens to differ from your own because politics is subjective.

Just a thought.
Now, Jim...really....you know that only works one way....x
Keep thinking, Jim. ;o)

Yes indeed Naomi, I am. I've explained why twice already but I'll say this just one more time :

"If I could make a difference with a Labour vote I surely would - but the FPTP system means my vote is effectively wasted.

My seat is a safe Tory one - after a squalid deal with UKIP the sitting Tory MP will get around 60% of the vote. Any vote for an opposing party is (under our daft electoral system) just so much waste paper.

Thus I can indulge myself in voting for the best local person and encourage an effective and personable Green candidate, rather than the lacklustre Labour chap"

Oh I think Jim does, Naomi...that's what gives him the edge..... :-)
Mind you he did say that both the Conservatives and Corbyn would be a 'disaster'!

So it comes down to Corbyn being 'a left wing extremist' to hold sway over the Tories effect on vital services.

Ah well....
Do you not agree that there's subjectivity and subtlety in politics, then? Or is there only ever one correct approach/answer to each problem?
Sunny-Dave, right ....

gness, you think? You keep thinking too. ;o)
Jim, //Or is there only ever one correct approach/answer to each problem? //

Not generally, but in this instance ...
Yes Jim, it's a balancing act weighing up all the pros and cons to aspects of each parties structure and manifesto.

There are always aspects to a favoured party's manifesto that won't be to one's liking but it depends on how strong you feel about a particular issue.

Some are bothered about policing cuts less than fox hunting and so forth. Others simply don't get past an individual like Corbyn less so than the Labour policies.

All sorts of factors to consider really, harder for some than others...
Question Author
No subtlety allowed, Jim - hence the bafflement at my logical deconstruction of how I decided on my vote in my constituency - it breaks the golden rule of "always vote for the rosette not the person" and is hence incomprehensible.

I'd always wondered how reaching a decision as to which party/MP to vote for worked. And now I know. Apparently, you have to think about it for a bit.
Question Author
Noooo - thinking is dangerous - it can let light into dark corners and encourage deviation from the True Path of Conservatism/Labourism ... you must vote according to sincerely held prejudices instilled into at your mother/father/nanny's knee
