This music appealed to me MUCH more and I was forever hooked on rock 'n' roll. From the age of 12/13 I "discovered" the Stones and they have remained my favourites. AC/DC, Ramones, Rainbow, Oasis, Kasabian.
As a baby Mum told me that I'd only stop crying when the radio was on (I mention her with fondness its her Birthday today) She always liked Queen (I now know who to blame Xx) Elvis and the Boss, I remember a lot of Motown songs as well. as I got a little older it was Ska and Blondie as well as the aforementioned bands.... my mate used to do my head in with his thrash metal and Iron Maiden stuff.
My parents didn't listen to music...but my elder sister listened to Perry Como, Patrick Boole, and musicals. My brother introduced classical. My earliest likes were Paul Anka,The Everly Brothers, followed by first purchases that included Janice Joplin,The Doors,Crosby,Stills,Nash and Young,James Taylor...and all the '60s folkies...Joan Baez, Dylan,Judy Collins. I continued in a similar vein for years. When I moved to the UK I discovered Steeleye Span...having already been exposed to Fairport Convention by my English husband. There also followed an obsession with Capercaillie,Clannad and Enya plus all sorts of weird and wonderful world music.
My maternal Grandmother would sing us old Music Hall songs, I'm sure some were bandy but we didn't notice.
My Mum was a fan of all the 40s/50s crooners , left me cold.
My dad was big on Brass Bands, marches especially - John Philip Sousa and so on , he also loved dance bands and we often went to watch those together.
My major love is Tamla Motown, followed by Northern Soul with a tendency to Dance/Trance when the mood takes me.
