Does Trump's ban now look not quite so 'outrageous', or can we expect crowd demonstrations in protest?

Not everything Trump says of does is stupid; just enough to worry a lot of people. What is most worrying is that neither Trump nor many of his supporters seem able to distinguish between what is stupid and what isn't.
Oh we can. We don't just howl that everything is "stupid" , as part of a concerted smear campaign.
I have not heard anyone howling that everything is stupid, and nor have I heard any of his supporters admit that anything was.
I agree Togo. I never saw a problem in Trump trying to protect of his country.
Garaman, have you been reading the posts here?
Yes, I read a lot of the posts, Naomi, unless they turn into personal spats.
Garaman, There are several people here who have never said a good word about Trump and will demonise him at any opportunity - and several others, who whilst supporting him because they think he should be given a chance, will criticise him when they feel it's warranted - me for one.
Surely someone somewhere wonders how clever the USA and UK bans are, coming as they do on their own. Any halfwitted person intent on taking a rigged electronic gadget from the named countries and onto a flight to either the USA or the UK to either of these countries will quickly spot the way to do that - explaining it here is telling the obvious. They will take a flight to somewhere else, then continue to either the USA or the UK.

More notably, these bans are a hideous admission that the security screening hitherto employed is and has been quite ineffective - it does not guarantee an aircraft free of incendiary/explosive devices and the cost, the time and the inconvenience have been a monumental confidence trick. But, by those looking seriously at these matters, that was known all along.

I for one am not praising either the USA or the UK on this, and certainly not singling out Mr.Trump.
BA for Garaman at 08:07 !

The difficulty with Trump is he like hat little boy in the Russian folkstory, about the little boy who cried wolf. He has come out with so much crap over the last few months, that if and when he says something sensible, nobody will believe him. He has no credibility whatsoever.

I am still unsure about the effectiveness of this measure though....surely if a laptop was to scrape by in the pre-flight screening process, and it exploded in the hold, wouldn't that be nearly as serious as exploding in the cabin ?
The Fuselarge has no strength as such Mikey, it's like a meccano set.
Apparently this type of bomb has to be detonated manually.
TWR....thanks for that. I appreciate that an explosion would be less effective in the hold, but still a concern I would have thought.

Effective screening of everything that goes into an aeroplane would seem the only way to deal with terrorists threats.

I have seem some nonsense being written about this ban, and how peoples lives are going to be effectively ruined because they can't take a computer into the cabin together on what could be long flights ....what is wrong with a book for goodness sake ?
Typo of the week goes to fuselarge, shurely. :)
Ha-ha ... good spot, douglas.

I thought The boy who cried wolf story was from Greece?
Dougie....well...some of them are a tad on the big side ! I remember the first time I flew in a Jumbo jet.....it was ruddy huge !

Douglas, shorely you mean shorely?
The bottom line is the authorities must have good reason for doing this. I have no objection whatsoever to the imposition of extra security measures.
Lol@Douglas. Can we fit Bombarred in somehow.

Karl; //They will take a flight to somewhere else, then continue to either the USA or the UK. //

Don't you think that ruse would be spotted by immigration and passports etc.? We no longer live in a world where people can move about at will without detection.
