100 today. First British performer to make No 1 in America, among other things. And a true icon of Britain's war effort.

Why not. Happy Birthday.
Happy Birthday Dame Vera -

Lynne

Indeed. How wonderful. It is sad that she will have outlived most of those who idolised her.
Wonderful lady.
I missed the tribute show which I think was on Tv last night I will watch it on catch up.

Anyone remember Ann Shelton? A contemporary of Vera, but what a powerful voice.
Happy Birthday, Dame Vera! :-)
Anne Shelton was a wonderful singer and very beautiful too.
Happy Birthday Dame Vera.

I did think it was an Aber reading it in latest posts.
Glad someone else remembers her. I'm thinking of those powerful female vocalists around that time. Millicent Martin comes to mind.
Just listened to an hour tribute on BBC eastern counties with songs and interviews. It finished with her singing Land of Hope and Glory.

A very Happy Birthday Dame Vera.

Yes Jackdaw, Ann Shelton, she was to the RAF what Vera Lynn was to the Army.

Happy Birthday to her. A fantastic lady.

Who sang 'Sailor, stop your roving/roaming?'
Flipping heck....100 today !

Well done our Vera !
Happy Birthday Dame Vera, congratulations!
Tilly, I've an idea it was Petula Clarke.
Question Author
Tilly, it was originally Lolita

There was a version in which some of the lyrics were spoken in English, and then Pet Clarke recorded an all-English verion. (She also recorded a lot of Beatles songs in French.)
