I think the right of all of us - to feel very strongly about this, to be not too bothered about that, and to not give a flying one about the other - should be extended to famous people as well.

They don't sign up to be spokespeople for anyone but themselves - so why are they castigated for not being on every bandwagon going?
good ole R-0_P, you can't beat it!
//It would be exhausting having to list every single thing of which you disapprove every single time you make a comment (verbal or written) about any issue.//

No exhaustive list necessary in this instance. Just one item. Islam’s appalling treatment of women.
//so why are they castigated for not being on every bandwagon going?//

It's more the fact Andy that their logic is flawed on what they do protest about.
Strange how some are so reluctant to condemn this barbaric treatment, much easier to defend Linekar Allen it would seem.
As I stated on page 1 it appears this thread isn't intended to discuss the contents of the link at all.

I did condemn it, shame some others are too busy celebrity gossiping.
Do you think if Theresa May was asked for her opinion she would say:

'it is a matter for the Indonesian government '??
Naomi 'Islam’s appalling treatment of women' would seem to suggest that you're only condemning the lashing of females. Is this correct?
The op does not condemn it AOG.

To be fair naomi, in this particular case, they were introducing a little equality, the man as well as the women were forced to endure 26 lashes of the whip.

AOG. ///

In a way it does.

*** Isn't this worth protesting about? ***
in all fairness to naomi, it is quite unusual for the man to be punished in this situation.
Zacs-master, no that isn't correct, but since so many women, led by celebrities, marched recently allegedly defending women's rights, I wonder why they ignore the plight of Islamic women.
TTT, it is indeed.
AOG, you sit on the fence alittle here but your OP and lack of condemnation of capital punishment as well as your support of bringing back the death penalty leads me to conclude that you are in favour of captal punishment:

AOG - speaking as someone who is defending Linekar and Allen - if you think that I am limited in my thinking to doing one or the other, and I have chosen the 'easier' option - then you are, not for the first time, mistaken.

As far as conemdning this action, I would have thought that you would know enough of the regulars on here generally, and me in particular, to know what our views on violence are.

I didn't condemn the violence, but then I didn't say that the sun has risen this morning - some things you really can take as read.

That is, you can take such things as read, if you are not keen to needle and carp and look for a fight that you won't actually come out and have properly.

This took place in Indonesia and not the Middle East, perhaps a different locality calls for different rules.
Zacs-Master

If I remember right, didn't you refer to 'CORPORAL' punishment, and not 'CAPITAL' punishment?
I did indeed AOG. A slip of the keyboard. So, are you in favour of Capital punishment but against corporal punishment?
Zacs-Master

Emotionally each has it's own merits and condemnations.

Corporal punishment, such as in this case has to be condemned, but at times one could equally say in anger, "it's about time they brought the cane back into schools".

Similar could be said regarding capital punishment, when one reads about a savage brutal killing of a little child say, "He or she, should swing for that, time we brought back capital punishment.
