rubbish ...
I meant the call for a female...would not be the same
I think the new Doctor Who should be that lady on the Channel 4 News who winds everyone up by wearing a headscarf. She's probably gay as well :-) But handy with a sonic screwdriver I'm told ...
Sorry, I must be missing something. What has HH to do with casting TV programmes? Is this an example of the BBC being little more than a Tory mouthpiece?

Blimey there's diversity for you, she ticks all those essential boxes.

Pity Peter C is going all the same
I think politicians should stay out of acting, it's not at all something they're good at -- oh wait, never mind.

Why shouldn't Doctor Who be a woman, at least once (more -- Joanna Lumley was the Doctor for about a couple of minutes in the '90s)?
a disabled doctor, maybe?
surely we should have an LGBT, theatre workshop, vegan, dwarf against the bomb candidate?
It's funny how

// Speaking at a Westminster lunch yesterday, Miss Harman agreed that the next Doctor should be a Time Lady. //

Goes through the Daily Mail translator and comes out as

// Harriet Harman has demanded the BBC appoint a woman as the next Doctor Who. //

The Doctor does not have to be a male Gallifreyan. The character is fictional, so they writers can make the Doctor whatever they like. Saying that, making the programme an exploration of human gender roles is not what the programme is about, and would not work. If they got a good actress to play the role, but her sex was never mentioned, or an issue, then I would be OK with that.

It would be nice to get someone who can stay with the role for more than 2 seasons. We seem to have had a succession of short stay Doctors. It would be good to get someone to sign for 4 or 5 years.
What colour though 3T? :))
Liz Carr
Ann Widdecombe.
If they mske Dr Who a woman , I for one will never watch it.Mind youvI said that about Sylvestor McCoy , he was dire as well.
Can't we get Patrick Troughton back? He was my favourite.
Alex Kingston would be brilliant and its arguable that she has the DNA
// Alex Kingston would be brilliant //

Agreed.
Andy - Patrick Troughton - now that really would be a regeneration !
Margo - Indeed, but he is The Doctor, he can do anything!!
:-)
I personally think that Dr Who is well past his sell by date
