You look at it through rose tinted glasses sp.

Most social conversions favour the female. Men are more likely to be assaulted than a woman is, especially young men; and some have been subjected to rape also. Men rarely get the opportunity to leave the rat race and bond with their children instead. They also do not get an opportunity to bear children so are not going to have that ability held against them when an employer is choosing who is best for them and their company. Blame nature if you wish. Nor do I suspect any would give two cents whether someone wanted to talk about their shoes, because they don't generally hold shoes as desirable items but as functional ones. I'm sure many males are paid less than some of their female counterparts. There are laws ensuring employers must treat the genders fairly, but for those at the top that results in a fair chance to negotiate their own salary. Slaves of either gender can be trafficked. It is illegal, and if more women are caught in the prostitution slavery trap it simply shows that in that particular situation a very small percentage of the world's woman can get caught whilst much fewer men. Hardly a ringing endorsement of an argument that they are, as a gender, disadvantaged. Further rage against nature is hardly a reason to think they are hard done by either. Everyone can make errors of judgement in life, and is left to bring up one's children then you have the advantage of having your children with you. Many older women start divorce proceedings when the children have left home: I don't intend to look it up but I recall reading somewhere that more women than men do this. And once one's relationship has ended why does it matter what or who one's ex spouse does with their life ?

Everyone has a list of things they won't want happening to them. It isn't a one way street.

Only in the world of modelling do men earn less than their female counterparts.

Male Prime Ministers meeting their SNP equivalent don't generate newspaper pages on their shoes.

Men are more likely to be assaulted by other men, but they are less likely to be assaulted by women.

Men are raped, but nowhere near as many men are raped as women.

Men are not trafficked in prostitution rings in any where near the same number of women, because there isn't the demand.

True - there are laws ensuring employers must treat the genders fairly, but these laws are flouted.

My argument is that there is no real need for an International Men's Day. We simply aren't that hard done by.
Not rose tinted specs Geezer. Blinkers.
sp, it was made illegal to offer women cheaper car insurance on the grounds of sex discrimination, so even though they are far less likely to have a pay out on their policy, they have to pay the same.

You've cut an pasted from an American website, and the debate in question is in the UK.

We would need stats that cover not just the US, but every country that took part in the men's day.

But the question remains - how many men would even bother?

I think that men would be rightly derided if they ever started to protest that they were hard done by.

Thus us the social pressure to say that the Emperor has wonderful new clothes.
More women have died in childbirth, than men in wars.
And women don't even start wars.
Also, the link you provided is titled 'Real Sexism'.

These stats are not proof of sexism.

Some of them can be attributed to societal attitudes, but many of them can't.

Also, if you believe that it is sexism that puts men behind bars, face discrimination in schools and universities, face longer jail sentences than women etc - then by extension, you could argue the same for racism.

...which means the next time someone asks you:

Why are men proportionally more likely to be sent to jail for the same crime as a woman?

You can answer: "Sexism".

And when someone asks you:

Why are black people proportionally more likely to be sent to jail for the same crime as a white people?

You are at liberty to answer:

"Racism".

Nice to see you back, sp xx
ahem, pixie, look at this lot! There's also research work that has been conducted that has shown 17th and 18C European queens were far more militant than the boys! You are a stroppy lot!

Lol. Probably men's fault though.... can you post the equivalent male one...? X
Overall.... not a limited timescale....
Most men do not start wars. I find this idea of all men are in a wonderful position and all the poor put upon women have to cope them, ludicrous. Especially when experience shows that during a normal life, one not affected by unusual circumstances, favour tends to be shown to the female; probably for the exact attitudes we see in the thread. That men are all awful and have it easy and the women all struggling and need all the help they can get.
This is about "most" OG... it's a generalisation about a National Day.
Isn't...
In a 'normal' life, women still have pregnancy, childbirth, period pains, menopause, career interruptions, childcare to arrange and as aog's says- are most likely to be left being both parents to the children. That's without even starting on safety or discrimination.
