Parliament - not just Government - has a say in enacting Article 50, according to the High Court's decision just announced.

Togo......."The High Court has ruled that the government needs Parliament's approval to trigger the process of the UK leaving the European Union"

That is the legal position as it stands today....is there something that you don't understand about that ruling ?
//This may even cause an early Election, according to this link ::: //

fine - let's see which parties campaign on a "remain" platform...
Well Mush....all the main Party's campaigned to REMAIN a few weeks ago, as it was the official policy of those Parties !
So you think Labour will vote for an election Mickey?

Remember May can't call for one, Parliament as a whole needs to.

It could be very interesting if they do, i wonder how many (from all parties) would keep their seat if the local population feel the MP is not representing their views.
Well a party that gor 4m votes didnt campaign on it. If current bunch of MP's are seen to be ignoring the people they are likely to find themselves on their arris. Would they take that risk?

UKIP could get stronger if that happened. Dont think the current turmoil in th e party would last if the feeling was that Brexit was being pushed out. Our Nige would rise to rescue the people I am sure.
YMB....I think it unlikely that Labour would win an Election outright....to pretend otherwise would be disingenuous on my part !

There is a feeling on here that all the MPs that campaigned in a future Election to REMAIN would lose their seats. But that is by no means guaranteed. The Referendum vote was a very narrow victory for the LEAVE camp, and there are many constituencies that voted to REMAIN.

Its not clear cut at all !
// //I can see a second referendum ahead, the gbp has risen already since the announcment, I think the answer will be remain this time.//

Rally? GDP incresed in a couple of hours?

Perhaps you need to look up what GDP is. In actual fact the GDP up will be a reflection that Project Fear was wrong. //

Perhaps you need to look up what GBP is!
GDP is being talked about not GBP.
UKIP will never rise again, at least not in the immediate future, The very wealthy backer was on the radio yesterday morning, saying that he was going to drop out, because the Party was in such a mess. And a mess it is most definitely in.....it can't even elect a leader, let alone any more MPs.
And GBP - noting to do with a court ruling it seems:

https://www.poundsterlinglive.com/gbp-live-today/5684-bank-of-england-gbp-v-eur-usd

The British Pound has shot to its best levels in weeks against hte Euro and Dollar as the Bank of England votes unanimously to keep interest rates unchanged and upgrade their growth forecasts.
Mickey, if the reason they were formed and achieved is being eroded I think yo u will find they will come back.

At present UKIP has achieved what it set out to do.
Really - please re-read the post you quoted.

The pound also boomed today, after the ruling -- but it might be a short-term bounce, as after all today's ruling doesn't say that Brexit isn't now happening. Merely that there has to be a formal vote in Parliament first.

Also, ymb, the initial post said gbp not gdp, so you might just have misread.
My mistake, must get my glasses. So my last post argues against Sterling gaining due to the ruling.
Looking at the intra-day graph on the BBC, there are actually *two* bounces in the price of sterling against the dollar today. One coincides with the Bank of England decision to hold interest rates, and the other with the High Court ruling.
Reading the article the pond rising was nothing to do with Brexit but the Bank of England deciding to keep interest rates low
^pound^
Or, as I say, you could actually look at the data.
//...is there something that you don't understand about that ruling ?//

I understand fully what the ruling means. It means that disaffected self serving lawyers can ignore the will of the majority and bend the system to suit their preferences. Just as they have learned to do in support of the pyramid scheme. I can't help but notice also that some people who rejoice when an event takes place that they approve of, and applaud and gleefully posture, seem awfully quiet thereafter when the event proves to be a pyrrhic victory indeed.
Why are you acting as if this means that Brexit is now inevitably going to be blocked? Almost certainly it will not be. Instead, Parliament, whose power over the domestic law of this country is as near as dammit to absolute, will be given the say on whether and how it is implemented. Talking about lawyers running riot over the people is, furthermore, pretty stupid when you realise that one of the leading challengers of the government in this decision was a guy who voted FOR Brexit.

Sorry, but those who are concerned at the result, or horrified by it, simply haven't a leg to stand on. The referendum this year was advisory; it is now up to Parliament, and not the Crown, to act on that advice. Almost surely, they will and must do so, by which means we'll then be able to get on with it without worrying too strongly about future legal challenges. If anything, this should give Brexiters a sigh of relief.
