Perhaps the powers that be are thinking it's best to wait 'til the time is right and are hoping it never will be.
you can want it soon or you can want it successful. I suspect many Brexiteers would prefer the first and take their chances with the second, but any PM's job requires them to concentrate on doing their best, not their quickest, for their country.
If it doesn't happen they will have burnt a lot of bridges.
I think we should take considerably more time before we jump into the abyss. We need to know where we're going to land.
plus politicians have to check their parachutes, Tilly
Yes, Brexit will definitely happen.
or their ejector seats, Jno. :-)
What abyss? The abyss is Euroland! We're showing the world what we're capable of in Rio. The Remainers just don't get it, even after a rigged London vote!
Yeah! A Gold in Gymnastics!
United we stand divided we Fall .
Another chance for the D and G Brigade to appear.
We have been betrayed. Come 2020 revenge.
The problem is the government did not expect 'Leave' to win. Not only did they not expect it they were certain it would not happen. There were NO plans whatsoever in place or even waiting for a 'Leave' vote. Now it is all having to be made up as they go along.
It takes a long time for even a single government dept to make plans for something that was not even thought possible, now every department has to think the unthinkable and do a 100% policy U turn.
Correct, Eddie.

'Oh my God! What do we do now??????'
not only that, there's a whole new department of people thinking
"What do I do now?
"Oh I know, I'll start empire-building!"

This makes a mockery of several things, not least describing the world we are living in now as "post-Brexit", as so many media sources do.

Long way to go yet, anyway, before we even have a clue what Brexit will even mean. And, apparently, whether or not it will even happen...
Good post Eddie. Power to the people.
jim, in fairness, I think that's just shorthand for "post-Brexit vote". The vote has already changed the landscape, though the changes have barely begun.
It made little sense to to spend time and effort creating a leave plan until the decision to leave had been made. We had two years after triggering the Article to sort it out anyway. And the basics are obvious anyway. Cease to be a member, take control and no longer feel obliged to do what is demanded of you, negotiate a new and this time fair & reasonable trade agreement with the market, or if the EU is being awkward start a new trade area/group/agreement with all the countries who want in.

I'm all for getting it right but I question how much pre-trigger time is required.

As for will it happen, of course it will; but the citizens supportive of the UK must ensure politicians don't try to sell us out.

As for 2019, clearly that's just remainers' wishful thinking. Such prevarication would certainly ruin whoever is responsible in the next election. It simply couldn't happen. No politician is that daft.
