/// Mrs Justice Mary Stacey accused Snobs in Birmingham of 'abandoning' the 19-year-old victim to be picked off 'like prey' by two sex attackers, who took the girl's virginity. ///

/// She even suggested the nightclub was partly to blame for the rape by saying they had 'created the circumstances for the crime to occur.' ///

/// In a scathing attack on binge drinking Britain she also blasted the venue's cheap drinks promotions and accused them of acting 'irresponsibly towards their customers.' ///

/// She said: 'Something needs to be said about Snobs nightclub. ///

Obviously something should be said regarding the problems such as this, all down to the failed multicultural experiment?

This seems something like those who blame the vulnerability of the young girls, their upbringing and the way they dress etc, for attracting the Asian child groomers.

Believe it or not the max term for rape in the UK Is Life!!!
so no one was raped in the UK before your “multicultural experiment” started? When was that btw? 16th century?
This tragedy seems to have resulted from a series of events and behaviours, all of which aligned to produce the circumstances in which this happened.

In no particular order -

The young lady lives in a society which regards a dose of alcohol poisoning as equating with a 'good night out'. She therefore ended the evening unable to rationalise where she was, or what was happening to her, much less defend herself.

The night club is concerned only with the profit it can make from the above, and decides its responsibilities to vulnerable people end outwith its curtilage.

There is no system in place to ensure that incapable people stand a reasonable chance of getting home safely by properly vetting Taxi Marshalls to ensure that they are not employing men who regard rape as a perk of their job.

The Asian men involved exhibit an all-too-common cultural attitude to Caucasian women - that they are simply sex objects to be used and discarded as and when the opportunistic circumstances arise.

So singling out the 'failure' of the multi-cultural experiment is to zero in on only one aspect of this whole sorry circumstance - and only one of those listed above, all of which need to be addressed by society to ensure that these assaults can be stopped.

Hi retro, hope you are well.

Yes that is what I thought, I wonder what the exceptional circumstances were, why the maximum sentence wasn't imposed?
Andy, we don't know the victim is Caucasian, there are students from all over the world at universities in Birmingham.
If only we had some kind of religious law that forbid ypung women getting drunk and putting themselves in vunerable situations.
Obviously imprisonment for life is not the answer, as the perpetrators answer to an higher authority. Stning is the only punishment they understand a want.
hc4361 - //Andy, we don't know the victim is Caucasian, there are students from all over the world at universities in Birmingham. //

A fair point, but I think my assumption is a reasonable one, although considering the form on this section for perceived assumptions being dragged through the mire for posts on end, maybe I ought to withdraw it!!!
According to sentencing guidelines the sentences weren't lenient:

Rape accompanied by aggravating factor: 8 years custody

http://www.cps.gov.uk/legal/p_to_r/rape_and_sexual_offences/sentencing/

De-nutting them will prevent future problems
Gromit - //If only we had some kind of religious law that forbid ypung women getting drunk and putting themselves in vunerable situations. //

In a society where people without a faith outnumber those with a faith, I would suggest that a religious law is really not going to help here.
Poor, poor girl. I'm with wolf !
A young lady in my town was refused entry into a bar...she wandered off to get a cab but got talking to her murderer. He was white though!!
Maybe the answer is to put a curfew on all men. Preferably between 6pm and 7am, unless with their wives or mothers.

ummmm - //A young lady in my town was refused entry into a bar...she wandered off to get a cab but got talking to her murderer. He was white though!! //

A tragedy - although my issue lies far more with bars and clubs that encourage excess drinking, but take no responsibility for the consequences that they help to create.

As I outlined in my initial post, it is not one single issue that causes these situations, but a combination rooted in profit, lack of self-respect, lack of responsibility, and cultural ignorance, all of which have combined to cause this poor woman's horrendous ordeal.

A good round explanation regarding this particular crime, and no one can deny what you have put.

But as you have outlined in your following text:

/// The Asian men involved exhibit an all-too-common cultural attitude to Caucasian women - that they are simply sex objects to be used and discarded as and when the opportunistic circumstances arise. ///

This is part of the failed multicultural experiment. ie multiculturalism carries with it certain problems, which some are not prepared to admit or even addressed, and until they are, the experiment can not be proven successful.

But that was only part of my thread, the main one being the light sentence, also the Judges attitude regarding responsibility.

Now had she summed up in similar words to your own, then we might be getting somewhere.
hc - //Maybe the answer is to put a curfew on all men. Preferably between 6pm and 7am, unless with their wives or mothers. //

Interesting.

Not sure how an entirely female-staffed police / fire / ambulance service would be fixed, but it is an idea.
AOG, as I said earlier, this wasn't a light sentence. The guideline for aggravated rape is 8 years and he got 11.
Thank you AOG.

Shall we use this atmosphere of mutual understanding to resume direct exchanges on the section?

I am sure we can both be relied on to reign in the more extreme passions in our debating styles - I for one do miss our exchanges of thought and opinion.

The sun is shining - let's give it a go!!
