was that after WW10 danny?
they are exempt from wearing crash helmets on motorbikes, I believe. Surprised therefore that they haven't been wiped out as a tribe in London....

In both WW1 and WW2 they were all part of separate Sikh regiments, so they all dressed the same, but now there are calls for them to return.

The bearskins cost on average, £1,224 each, is it acceptable to spend that much?
Danny, I would imagine that the Sikhs fighting alongside the Allies were in the Indian Army and thus had their own uniform. That soldier in the video that AOG posted is in the British army. Strange how we went from the US guy to the British one...Anyway, it's an interesting discussion.
This is how the Indian Army moves its troops efficiently to the front.....these Sikhs aren't in turbans.....

Oops, I think I was wrong there, since India didn't become independent until 1947.

They weren't on Ceremonial duties at Buck House then Danny.

How do you know they are Sikhs?
the page said so....
If someone were threatened and that Sikh soldier acted in defence, would it matter if he were wearing a bearskin or no?
stuey

It was still called the Indian Army, even prior to 1947.

In that scenario, It wouldn't matter if he wore no uniform at all.

What page, I see no page.
Thanks, AOG.
ANOTHEOLDGIT, if he is doing his job and it makes no difference what he wears, what is the big deal about the turban?

Of course it makes a difference in what he wears, he is in the Scot's Guards and as with all guards regiments their ceremonial uniform includes the wearing of a 'Bear Skin'.
Times change and attitudes move on, perhaps some folk should do the same.
Correct, but they have now changed and the Regiment says it is proud to be writing another chapter in it's long history.
“Alright, chaps, stand at ease. That is if you want to; you don’t have to just because I say so. Anyway, this is to inform you that our traditional uniform policy regarding the uniform is not longer uniform. This means that you can jolly well wear anything. Now we daren’t make a list of items in case someone might be offended by what is included in it, or even what is not included in it. Suggested items, and I repeat SUGGESTED, include blue jeans, running shoes, tams, straw hats, orange buckets, smoking jackets, etc ad nauseum. Yes, Desmond, we’ll include a tutu. So as you can see……….”
