What he has done is wrong but you should see the number of people that walk out of toilets that don't wash their hands.

The number of chefs that stand outside smoking in their whites is also amazing, so you may find that this goes on (poor toilet habits) amongst the white folk too.
On R4 last week there was a programme about the Indian govt's. drive to improve hygiene and provide toilets. Villagers (mostly women) were saying how much they hated having to defecate outdoors - but they are still not using the toilets, I can't remember their reasoning, think I had to go out at that point.
The gift that keeps on giving!
Yep these are the gifts that are spreading through Europe through lack of screening. I note that most MSRA cases are acquired by tourism to other countries or immigration.
Sorry about the source of the information. Dismiss it as xenophobia if you like.
I prefer to face reality.
sp, //The gift that keeps on giving!///

Not with you. What do you mean?

Islay, //The number of chefs that stand outside smoking in their whites //

Cigarettes in themselves are not unhygienic - the fact that a smoker's hand touches his mouth as he smokes makes smoking unhygienic - so the same rule applies. If you're handling food, wash your hands thoroughly after smoking before you touch the food.
Thank you Naomi for that information - I wasn't aware of that!!!!
retrocop, // I note that most MSRA cases are acquired by tourism to other countries or immigration.//

I agree with you. I've always thought that the high incidence of hospital acquired infections is primarily due to the plethora of foreign workers employed as cleaners, etc.
Apart from anything else - as a food handler, this guy should have done a food hygiene course so there is no excuse for his ignorance.
Islay, you're welcome.
237SJ, that's not compulsory.
//In the UK, food handlers don't have to hold a food hygiene certificate to prepare or sell food,//

Same link I think.
They don`t have to hold a certificate but they are obliged to complete a hygiene course.
When my brother and I were in India we both came down with Delhi belly at different times, no joke I can assure you. We stayed at five star hotels where you get a better class of cockroach.
Eating out was an education toilet wise. Often there would be an old tin can on the floor with a little water in it, near a hole in the floor. Paper was a spoiled westerners item at certain rural places we visited. I posted on several sites the need for a nail brush to facilitate the removal of particles under the nails. But I was ridiculed, and several Indian responded by saying what use was a nail on a stick. I'm convinced that a nail brush used correctly would prevent many cases of the dreaded trots. Imodium sales would drop considerably.
237SJ, from the link. //The necessary skills may be obtained through on-the-job training, self-study or relevant prior experience. //

'Hygiene courses' are debateable!
Regardless of how it is carried out, it is still mandatory. Mine is online learning with a quick quiz at the end but it still has to be done. I`m sure that some establishments don`t bother though.
I always thought that you had to have it - I had to do it even when I worked partime in a pub kitchen!
This Turkish run Emporium has been visited twice over two years and got zero rating for food hygiene yet it is still allowed to operate??? Two other food outlets (Indian restaurants) in the same row and within 50 yds are operating both with zero rated hygiene grades. What is the point of the FSA?
