And as has been said, eddie, a million times. If he's breaking the law, it's a matter for the police. (or relevant authority)
Although it is not mentioned here , there is also a strong suspicion that many of his 'temporary' workers are illegal immigrants, which is why they put up with the working conditions and low pay!
Svejk The police do not investigate employment law such as low pay or illegal work contracts.
They are civil matters.
In this case the 'Business Innovation and Skills Committee'. Which is formed of MP's ARE the relevant authority!
Oh eddie, come on. If someone doesn't pay the minimum wage, they're breaking the law. If they weren't, there'd be very little point in Parliament debating and passing 'minimum wage legislation'.
TTT....look at the link that Eddies has provided. Here another :::

Ever wondered how he manages to charge such ludicrously low prices ?
Svejk , See my answer above. The BISC are the branch of parliament that have responsibility for upholding minimum wage and employment contract law ! They are just doing what they are formed to do.
Oh right, so next week they'll have Mr Singh from the corner shop in for a dressing down?
Until now it was unheard of for someone to go to the lengths Mike Ashley has done to avoid talking to them or giving the required information. This hearing is the last resort, he has refused everything else.
Normally a letter or a visit from an inspector is all that is needed to sort out a problem. But this guy has totally refused to co-operate or answer any questions. As a last resort, as the item says, they could imprison him for refusing to co-operate ,answer any questions or improve his working practices. Mr Singh from the corner shop would get the same treatment if he was as obstinate and uncooperative as this guy has been!
Question Author
eddie: "He is a criminal , simple as that. " - if so then the authorities need to investigate and prosecute with proper operatives not some troupe of self important busy bodies lobbing rotten eggs at the bloke so they look good in front of voters.
TTT...the Business, Innovation and Skills Committee is an all-Party committee and forms part of the normal business of the House of Commons.
The Chair of the committee and his Party is irrelevant.

If he is summoned to appear in front of a committee, he should appear, in the same way as Rebekah Brooks, Bob Diamond, the Dirty Digger, etc, etc were.

I don't want to give our Editor kittens by expressing my views on Mike Ashley but suffice to say he needs to answer some important questions....if he has nothing to hide, than he should appear and say so.
Lost cause guys.
Question Author
mikey: "The Chair of the committee and his Party is irrelevant. " - who said it was? Anyway the whole committee is irrelevant. What next sling him in the tower and get the thumbs screws out?
TTT , please think carefully before you answer this!
Can you 100% truthfully say that your attitude to Mike Ashley would be precisely the same if his name was 'Mohammad Al-Kalifa ' for example all other facts being exactly the same?
Question Author
yes assuming he too is operating within the law. I support those who create wealth and jobs regardless of ethnicity. They pay the wages of these public sector buffoons.
TTT, the entire point is that Mike Ashley IS NOT operating within the law and he refuses to even answer questions about how he seeks to justify his illegal work practices!
OK, if he's breaking a law the police should be the inquisitors.

If it's a civil offence, the injured party should prosecute, not some overpaid pompous group of overpaid MPs.
Ooops, inadvertent repetition, sorry.
Question Author
eddie, if that is true why is he not being prosecuted? I get the impression that he is being accused of things that maybe should be illegal but are not currently.
Question Author
someone pass me a sedative canary agrees with me!
