AOG, you are all for taking away Muslim's choice to wear the burkha or niqab if they want to by banning it.

You may not want to believe it, but some women do wear those garments out of choice.

1. Do you not think that JTH gave a perfectly reasonable answer to your question?

2. What does 'I doubt whether you also view male and female marriages, as also being along 'traditional' lines? actually mean (as a response to JTH)?

Do you understand my point that everyone thinks of traditional marriage as being one between a man and a woman? Literally no-one could possibly argue against that, as up until last year, traditional marriages were between a man and a woman.

3. Please, for the sake of clarity, identify which particular chip you have identified on my should today, because I've looked through my responses and can't work out what you're referring to.

4. You suggested I open a different thread if I want to attack Jews. I don't understand why you think I would. Once again, I was pointing out similarities in both Muslim and Jewish traditions. I am no more interested in attacking you are in attacking Muslims.
Muesli is for the birds Svejk and I did't know nuts had cutlets - or is the other way round?

/// AOG as I stated, if I were a member of that particular society and disliked the way they operated I may well try to voice my concerns from within. ///

Just because you are not a member of a particular society or in this case a particular Muslim society, surely doesn't prevent you from voicing an opinion on the fact that this group choose to segregate their women, while at the same time not treating them as equal human beings.

By failing to do so, I can only assume that in this debate you side with the perpetrators of this middle aged tradition?
But leaving that aside...

Please explain to everyone here, who is being treated unequally.
As has already been pointed out, the men were also segregated at this function. Both genders had exactly the same experience of food, facilities, comfort etc
In this instance the women were not treated unequally (unless you have more details ) - the running of the evening was known to those buying tickets.

I wouldn't care to attend such an event as I prefer mixed company so would not have paid for a ticket , those ladies attending did.

I am defending no one, as I do believe I have already stated.

Are there things in society that need changing ? Most definitely.

/// You gotta love the way that the Daily Mail keeps reiterating "There is no suggestion that anyone attending the event was an
extremist." ///

Their practice seems very extreme to me.
Well, the Daily Mail certainly didn't treat them equally: they blurred out the woman's face in one photo; is she not worthy of being seen?:)

You playing the victim constantly is very tiresome.

The news section is essentially a debating forum. If you put something forward then people who do not share that view will disagree with YOU.
The fact that you have borderline extremists views, means that you get an above average number of people opposing you.
As the majority of your posts are intended to annoy other users than ask a genuine question (your OP is a prime example), then you should not be surprised, or hurt, or indignant when people post different views to your own.

That's what I thought too.

When I clicked on the link initially, I was expecting the women to be sat at the back with all the good tables taken by men at the front, but the dividing curtain is down the middle.

I honestly think that this isn't the best story to demonstrate inequality suffered by Muslim women. But I'm sure AOG will explain his thinking soon.
AOG

For my own benefit, will you be explaining why you think these women are being treated unequally, and if so, will it be in the next couple of hours?

I'm genuinely curious to hear your point of view, and I appreciate that you might have other things on the boil this afternoon.

/// Does the 'anti AOG Brigade' have an annual dinner? ///

/// Not that I'd be on the invite list. ///

Don't run yourself down Mam, although you have now admitted to belonging to the AOG Brigade, I don't bear any grudge, providing you go behind the curtain.

/// Private clubs can have their own silly rules, and as long as no one is barred entry due to their sex or colour, then there is no inequality taking place. ///

Perhaps it would be perfectly in order to segregate blacks from whites, by means of a curtain then, what's the difference?
//Their practice seems very extreme to me. //

The UK have many men only clubs and many cases where the sexes are not treated equally by their own culture as mentioned several times on this thread.
First class/steerage class; front of the bus/back of the bus; main entrance/tradesmen entrance; self parking/valet parking; etc...Oops, I almost forgot: men one side/women other side.

/// The fact that you have borderline extremists views, ///

No, not borderline extremists views, but views that the lefties on here would rather not have discussed.

/// For my own benefit, will you be explaining why you think these women are being treated unequally, and if so, will it be in the next couple of hours? ///

My thread was not just about these particular women, it was simply to further the proof that women in the Muslim world are classed as unequal to men.

// Perhaps it would be perfectly in order to segregate blacks from whites, by means of a curtain then //

Maybe not in order, but as long as the blacks and whites enjoyed the same facilities in the club, then they are being treated equally, and not breaking the law. But I doubt they would get any customers if any club tried to do that.

// views that the lefties on here would rather not have discussed. //

Except it is mainly the lefties on here who debate your far right questions.
// proof that women in the Muslim world are classed as unequal to men. //

No one is arguing that women are treated equal in Islam. But having a segregated audience is NOT proof of that. The audience is being treated equally treated, and no one is doing anything wrong.
