The thing that clinched me to his side was when he said, "Mr Putin and I will get along just fine!".
The hostilities in Syria could have been nipped in the bud 3 years ago if Obama and his administration had realized the futility of -despite the failures of Iraq and Libya - pursuing more regime changing in the middle east .

Epic fail on the reality front there: it's precisely because Obama, who I otherwise admire, HASN'T pursued 'regime change' that we are now in this situation
Trump said what he said about Putler because he wants to associate himself with 'hard men' : as I said above tho he'd have to change his tune in office
Think what a disappointment he would then be to those who realised that gays would NOT be banned from the US, nor Moslems of course.

As far as Syria goes there was never any attempt at 'regime change' as such
But a more concerted effort to support the moderate opposition would have at least given Assad and Putler something to think about
None of the regime changes that did occur in the Arab Spring have gone very well. Look at Egypt as well as Libya. Yemen. Even Tunisia, which is stable, reports horrifying torture by the govt, although it's a stable country still
One could criticise Obama for backing uprisings there, but imagine the fuss had he continued to side with Ben Ali and especially Mubarak, Gafdafi or indeed Assad. All of these countries already had revolutions, which threatened and indeed created massive upheaval. So 'regime change' there was already on the way. The one place with the ancien regime still at least partly functioning is the worst of the lot
