Anjem Choudary is also due to stand trial isn't he?

I think I'd need to be reminded of the good pastor's comments first - though I won't pine away waiting :-)

Well I think it is on record that Choudary actively promotes and encourages No Go Sharia areas in London. He preaches hatred of the West that feeds and houses him. He states he wanted to join ISIS but funnily couldn't find his way to Syria unlike a load of of our East End schoolgirls! It is similar to Shakar isn't it? He was offered freedom to his HOME country 8 years ago but somehow managed to grit his teeth and hang on for blighty. ( My blighty. Not his). I can't understand why..... unless ???
A UK citizen also preaches an opinion and gets banged up.I know who I would rather entertain in my house over Christmas.
But he is, actually, due to stand trial for pro-ISIS speeches I think.
So it isn't quite the case that he is getting "off scot free" whatever you think of him.
And Pastor McConnell hasn't been "banged up" has he? He is due to stand trial. Personally, I hope he gets off, but either way, the facts are always a good idea in cases like this
Sorry. Faces the possibility of being banged up !! One generally has to look on the pessimistic side when it comes to our own UK citizens doesn't one.?
"Pour encourager les autres" dont ya know ?

the fact is pastor mconnell is in high court today on this charge and could face imprisonment and the likes of choudery and the rest of the sewer rats are walking the streets of london free men and sponging off our system.

what a farce.
I believe you meant Anjem Choudary. Good question, because I have been asking this for a long time that why British media presents this person as a spokesperson of Islam when no one knows him. And I agree with you that why the British justice system does not deal with him? I know why but I will leave it to you to find out.

But do let me know once you know the reason.

The British justice system 'IS' dealing with Anjem Choudary.
He stands trial in January.
Conspiracy theories to the left of him conspiracy theories to the right of him :-)
Anjem Choudary is on bail and due to appear in the High Court in January for inciting support for ISIS. Conditions of his bail are extensive and will stop him attending demos and posting anything on the internet; a curfew and he must not associate with anyone else at Friday prayers.

So to say he is getting off Scot free is rubbish.
Doesn't matter how many times that is pointed out hc, no one seems to want to listen :-)
We'd be far better off imo if people like Pastor McConnell were ignored, or at least challenged in a non legal context. I can't for the life of me see what would be gained by jailing him, other than making a martyr out of him.
I will bet a whole 50p that the pastor isn't jailed.
I'd bet more than that :-)
50p is a lot of money for me to gamble, but I'll raise it to 65p

He was on bail but he recently broke one of his bail conditions by contacting someone he shouldn't have. He's now behind bars on remand until the trial. Whoops!

I concur with Pastor McConnell's assertion. In fact, I would wager that most sane, rational people who read the Koran and associated texts with an open mind would conclude the same thing. To state such an opinion is not hate speech nor it is an incitement to violence. It may cause "offence" to some but so what?

Unfortunately we now live in country where causing "offence" is now a crime punishable by imprisonment. Free speech is rapidly becoming a thing of the past these days. And the people who advocate such prosecutions are sleepwalking into an Orwellian nightmare.

This story is rather reminiscent of the recent case of Marine Le Pen in France. She was charged with inciting religious hatred against Muslims. On the 15th, December 2015, she was acquitted of all charges. Now, like her or loath her, she's entitled to her opinions and to voice those opinions as long as they are not an incitement to violence. She was exercising her rights to freedom of speech.

Similarly, protesters (muslim or otherwise) who burn poppies and make (what I consider to be) despicable remarks about our armed forces during remembrance services and other military ceremonies must be allowed to do so without the threat of imprisonment. As long as what they are doing and saying is not an incitement to violence, their voices must be tolerated.

That is the price we pay for freedom of speech. It's a high one but one that must be met if we are to continue to live in a free society.

"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it" - Evelyn Beatrice Hall
And for good measure, this quote from the film, "The American President", which is about the USA specifically but can easily be applied to the UK with just a few minor changes to the text:

"You want free speech? Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who's standing centre stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours... Now show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms. Then, you can stand up and sing about the land of the free."
