How much would you ask a student to pay for lodging?

They will be given full run of the house and have all meals provided, although they will be expected to make their own breakfast and packed lunch and do their own laundry.

I used to charge my nephew £80.
Question Author
Thanks Ummmm, I was thinking £70 as it is a round number but wasn't sure.
My nephew had a job and I didn't actually want him living here :-) He drove me mad.
A room in a shared student house in Belfast is about £70 a week. Then there'd be cost of bills and food. £70 would be cheap in my opinion.
Question Author
A tenner a day is a bargain, I concede. The student will be on a working holiday so perhaps I should find out how much they'll be earning.

I'm not particularly bothered about covering my costs but do feel that there should be some sort of payment made.
remember to insure, eccles.....
Question Author
I have no intention, nor need, to adjust my insurance.
If you are at present living alone and are Not paying full Council Tax then taking a lodger means that your circumstances will become altered and you will then fall into the category of having to pay Full Council Tax

Hans.
I believe Eccles has a husband.
Question Author
Hans, thanks for your input but it is totally irrelevant to my OP.
Question Author
I thought I had asked a fairly straight forward question......

I hadn't prepared myself for the patronising responses, ho hum........
People are only trying to help. Why the attitude?
Question Author
To 'help' would involve answering the question placed. However, the post has attracted irrelevant responses which have not addressed my quandary.

I would say your original estimate of £70 is fair if a little low but as you say worth checking what he will be earning.
According to this this link £90 a week with extras on top.

Thanks Mamya.

When I was growing up I was lead to believe that a 1/3 of income was typical for 'housekeeping', can anyone advise if this is still the norm?
I think it largely depends on the area that you live in. Round here you wouldn't get a room in a shared house for under £100 a week, but if he's family/friend then £70 a week seems more than fair.

Good luck.
Question Author
Thanks Tony, I'm clearly being a bit of a soft touch with my £70 price point.

I'm too shy to investigate what the extras may be..... ;-)
LOL.

Food, gas, electricity etc.
