Damn good

they get a grant to tide them over the shock of not being re elected
( Ed Balls - quite honestly I dont know what I am going to do now )
Live off his wife rather than living off us I suppose

and they get a larger pension - sooner

because --- -- wait for it

ex MPs find it hard to get alternative employment
Did the MPs whose careers ended ignobly with a taste of porridge keep their pensions?
oops not sure

if it is contributory - the current law is that there is/was a contract
and the view is that it is no body's interests to say " there is a new law and what was a contract now isnt " - also against the soon to be repealed Human Rights Act

Althooooo Dr SHipman was deprived of his future pension by a stroke of the ministers pen ( very rarely used section of the original 1948 act ) which was contributory ( O hell yes)
and this led directly to his suicide
because Rosemary the widow by a glitcch could get her half share so long as it wasnt vested. ( weird I know )

I vested my pension at the earliest opportunity
Ed Balls got £88,000 I heard.
In order to attract suitable people it is only right they have some compensation.

How many other jobs can be cut short in this way?
Hopkirk....Maybe not in this way but not very many people have "job" security in this day and age. At least compared to a few years ago.
