Good news but how long will it be before the eco-maniacs try to put a stop to it?

The tumbling oil price means that, maybe, we should sit on these reserves for a generation or so.

Of course this won't occur as anyone who gets this lucky wants the wealth during their own lifetime, don't they?

Dunno how long that might be. I wonder how long it will be before the old luddites realise that oil is going the way of coal-fired steam engines?
The south of England will want independence now.
The NIMBYs will be having hissy fits.
Coo, hope the Scots achieve independence next time round. All ours!! :o)
All ours again, Naomi?
If the find were in the North they would be telling us how lucky we are and how many jobs it will create, expecting our happy, smiley faces to beam at them.

I think it's good news. Taking a long-ish view we need to be as near self-sufficient in energy as possibly I.M.O.. The rest of the world cannot be counted upon to be a friendly place. It gives a breathing space to develop other forms of energy..... but Surrey, tut, tut!.... It will be NIMBYs using the eco argument to protect their spaces.
douglas9401, that was actually a tongue in cheek comment - I'm sure I don't have to explain its relevance - but again? As far as I can tell in recent years ‘ours’ included the Scots - and despite propaganda to the contrary currently you're not doing too badly at all.

Naomi, dearest, any post of mine should be read as if I'm standing in front of you with one eyebrow raised, a sarky tone and a slight smile playing at the corners of my mouth.

Any post except this one, of course. This one's dead serious! :-P
Douglas dear, that's exactly how I read it. :o)
I'm really not sure about these numbers - they don't stack up. A field that size is a Saudi elephant and should have a recovery rate (primary and secondary) of around 30 per cent, not 5 to 10...... Maybe the real experts should be allowed to have a look at the data room.
can't imagine huge oil fields in surrey. you don't even get pylons. can't spoil views there.
DTC it is Shale oil incorporated into rock, recovery is dirty, inefficient and very expensive.

I live in leafy Surrey and I can assure you there is a quite extensive National Grid running not less than 400 mts from my house. Look up Morden and St Helier on an OS map. :-)
looks as if it's right under jno jnr's house. he should probably consider selling out for zillions before they suck it (or the shale) out and sinkholes start to open up...
lady janine, they will obviously extract it through champagne funnels in Surrey.
