The Spanish Government named a public square in Madrid,
The Margaret Thatcher Plaza on 15 Sept this year.
It has been defaced twice since it was named , it would appear that she was
not very well thought of in Spain either.???

I am one of six, children often percieve they are not the favourites. So that's the clincher for hatred is it, that a 7 year old child felt she was not the favourite. Gawd I thought farrier was bad! WAP!
It's called a joke, naomi.
I'm sure you know full well that Thatcher favoured Mark over Carol . Not a nice thing to say but true.
It was a 'surprise' party for Mark! Surprise!! He could hardly hand the invitations out himself! I don't understand Talbot's post at all.
If it helps......Mark and Carol Thatcher are twins......
I agree Farrier

even I would consider

linking wondering why something has been defaced
with - whaddya mean she won three elections ?

was a spectacular non-sequitur

. In terms of naming - Franklin D Roosevelt and Gandhi top the lists of street names and plazas dont they ?
and yes there are very few Truman Plazas who modern historians look on as a hopeless incompetent

I thought the obvious defacer would be a Brit tourist
when I read your original post
Talbot, oh right. A joke. What does her alleged relationship with her children have to do with this?
Really, naomi? It's a standard as far as twin jokes go.
'' if Margaret thatcher were around today '' she would be a very old woman :)
// If it helps......Mark and Carol Thatcher are twins.....//

and she had twins because it was the most economical way of having two children

ta-daaaah another joke - we havent had that one yet have we ?
Well I took the words 'not very well thought' from the OP and .....

Talking of not very well thought of, who has ever been to Grantham?
Meanwhile, back on earth....
I'd be surprised if your average Spanish 'vandal' had any idea quite who Margaret Thatcher was..........
Blimey there are some spectacular off thread comments here by people who complain about off-thread comments
My comments are in answer to things I have read on this thread PP.

linda
She cared about everyone

but not equally, linda.
I thought there was a lot of disquiet between Spain and Thatcher over Gibraltar.
Mayor Ana Botella said:
"She was a transforming personality, capable of defying bankrupt economic and social paradigms," Mrs Botella mentioned. "The end of the Cold War, tearing down the Berlin Wall in a revolt against Communism, the downfall of the Soviet Union, could not be explained with no Margaret Thatcher."
I lose the will to live watching these threads sometimes!! More like being in a classroom of 6 year olds than a grown up debate!
I'm sorry you feel that way, Linda.

But to say Margaret Thatcher cared for every one..............AH, now I see your point.
so when a war memorial is defaced will you be slagging off the soldiers.
yes hc there is always friction over Gibralter, regardless of leadership, but that's a tiny aspect in the scheme of things. TGL did something to warrant a plazza in Madrid.
