Good quality cuts are popular across much of Europe and further afield. That helps push up the price, as do the different people taking their payment before it gets to the supermarket shelf.
muslims eat lamb so as they increase the price goes up , supply and demand as the farmer said to my mate as he sent another lot to market
Poor old Muslims, getting the blame for everything. :-)
Love lamb especially with mint sauce, today just paid £3.15 for rack of three cutlets and that just did one meal by the time fat comes of etc!
I think lamb has always been expensive. Even when I was a child it was a very rare treat, as was chicken.
I always imagined it was because you don't get much meat off one little lamb and so it's 'scarcity' made it more expensive.

We seemed to eat a lot of pork products then. Actually, we still do. We do have lamb on high days and holidays. It's my favourite roast.
Muslims are to blame for the price increase on lamb. erm no wonder I can't afford any pork chops these days... selfish T*****!
because it's generally raised outdoors, takes a good acreage to feed and farmers -who have to make a living - only get two to four lambs a year from each ewe. There are also seasonal price fluctuations

quite so, sandy, for some reason the word cobblers sprang to mind ;)
only going of what the farmer said

> supply and demand as the farmer said <

I think UK lamb commands high prices in France and Germany. But rich Arabs might have developed a taste for it too.
and another thing.....how do those beautiful little lambs turn into really not very beautiful sheep? I don't like sheeps' eyes. to look at, I mean, not to eat
I agree tilly. I'm a total hypocrite when it come to animals because I do love meat. Lamb chops anyone... they're tasty but before they become a sheep.
A flock of those not very beautiful sheep and their beautiful babies held me up in a country lane in Dorset yesterday morning.
I believe you
It's true Arksided, a lane between Child Okeford and Fontmell Magna.
and tone mowed them down....picking up a few to bring back home, his freezer bulging now.

When are we having a lamb dinner?
^ Lol more likely :-)

Bride to Mother\-in-law syndrome perhaps?
Wanted to, DT, but mil was sitting right behind me and I could feel the glare though the back of my head !.
I have a syndrome?
Good for her, Yont. I'd have been glaring as well.
