/// We noted, for example, how he has given about £50,000 in grants to the Bengali media and a further £50,000 a year for "community media advice" to the chief correspondent of the most popular Bengali TV channel. That same channel has three times breached Ofcom impartiality rules by its blatantly biased coverage of the mayor. He counters that the relationship the two have is "professional". ///

There is something worrying when a Mayor of a mainly ethnic minority borough of London, not only tries to stop a BBC 'Panorama' report, but also channels public money toward self interest sources.

"It would be if you stop trying to stifle debate, because it is against your own particular personal agenda."

How?

Have I reported your question?

Have I attacked any contributors to this thread?

"If you do not wish to join in the debate then just cease posting."

sunny-dave's response to my initial post was perfect. I suggest you take note.
Also - so is New Judge's response just now.

I strongly urge you to look through some of NJ's posts, as a learning opportunity.

His politics are similar to yours, but he presents his arguments clinically and objectively.
if you were any kind of man, sp, you'd apologize for your opening diatribe against aog. not keep digging.
No "Best Answer"for me then !! :-)

> The figure comes from the 2011 census and it may well be that large numbers of the non-white residents did not take part.

from some of the forums that i have visited i think a lot of the non black residents of this land gave it a miss -)

No thank you. But cheers for the advice. I'm more interested in what AOG has to say than you.

But thanks anyway.

Are you surprised? I'm not, and I think there will be more to come across the UK.
Corruption amongst Asians is very common.

Here in Birmingham the only people who have ever been found guilty of election postal vote rigging have been Asian.

All the people who have been found fiddling the insurance companies with "cash for crash" car accidents are Asian.

We have allowed thousands (hundreds of thousands) of Asian people into this country whose main aim is to pay as little tax as possible, fiddle the benefits system, and fiddle as much as they to benefit they and their friends.

"Unfortunately Mr Rahman has the "Islamaphobic" trump card to play "

And he can throw in the race card if the islamophobia ambush defence card fails.

Wonder which one of the two is currently more powerful at present?.
Hopefully there are people who know they are up to their tricks and deal with them accordingly. We are been taken for fools all the way. The only thing to do is to report anything.

Wait for AOG's comeback.

He has a knack for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory (see his thread on the resignation of the Firefox CEO).
ANOTHEOLDGIT, you say SP has an agenda. You have said it is, 'worrying when a Mayor of a mainly ethnic minority borough of London, not only tries to stop a BBC 'Panorama' report, but also channels public money toward self interest sources.' Would it not be worrying no matter what the ethnicity of the Mayor or the Borough or do YOU have an agenda?
Even the BBC are at it corbyloon.

BBC News; "Panorama has found that Lutfur Rahman, the Bangladeshi mayor of Tower Hamlets, has more than doubled funding recommended by officers for Bengali-run charities".

Get over it ppl.
"i think a lot of the non black residents of this land gave it a miss"

That may well be true Dr F. However I am very familiar with Tower Hamlets (and neighbouring Newham) and I find it incredible to have it suggested that almost half of the population of Tower Hamlets is white. However, having done some further research I had neglected to remember that included in Tower Hamlets is the Isle of Dogs. This area is quite affluent (encompassing Canary Wharf and the like) and it probably dilutes the non-white population quite a bit. However, large swathes of TH has an almost exclusive Bangaldeshi population and it is this to which Mr Rahman turns his attentions.
sp, amazed you don't know Tower Hamlets, also that you didn't see the recent programme about the this Mayor, his shenanigans have long been known. i posted on this recently, i did watch the programme, and even given some degree of bias, which happens, it was an unsavoury piece, Lutfer Rahman comes across as a corrupt, self serving man, and his associations with Channel S and the Bengali community should be scrutinised thoroughly, he also wanted to get Tower Hamlets city status, which is wrong as its a borough of the capital, not one man's fiefdom.

also printing and distributing 90 thousands leaflets through people's doors to promote himself, the money for this came out of the taxpayers pocket.
NJ, i am not sure i would dispute that figure, have a walk though the area, i just think that the non Asians get little press, plenty of chi chi restaurants, businesses, say white Europeans who live in TH, though i would add that parts look more like Islamabad than a European country.

I've lived in London all my life but there are several areas that I've never visited...Dalston, Wandsworth, Mayfair, Tower Hamlet etc.

I don't know anyone in those areas, and there aren't any bars/clubs there that I've chosen to visit.
sp. you seem to defend black people per se. Do you mind me asking whether or not you feel a bit of a conflict of interest in defending Muslims, bearing in mind their attitude toward gay people? Are you ever torn between the two causes? I’m genuinely curious.
naomi24

Absolutely none.

My rule is - I won't assume anything about anyone by their race, sexuality, gender or religion.

If I met a Muslim, I am not going to assume that he or she is anti anything, until they say or do something to prove that.

Same with straight people, black people, white people, Hindus, dwarves, trapeses artists (you get the picture).

The reason is (and it's got nothing to do with being 'PC' or whatever)...is that I've grown up in a very mixed metropolitan area, and have had several encounters with people who have been 100% opposite to what I have initially assumed.

Therefore, I've learned to attach nothing to someone until they give me reason to attach.

It's the 'Danny Dyer Principle'. I met him a few years ago, and found that he couldn't be more different to what I thought he'd be. A very pleasant surprise.
