...that were predicted to be swamping our streets from January 1st onwards?

Not being funny...but where the hell are they? And why have the press gone all quiet on the story?

Does anyone feel concerned that we are now living in an age where papers can print wholly false stories, without checks and balances?

Is this an unforeseen product of the Internet age? With so much unverified information flooding our phones, tablets, PCs and other devices, do we just take everything with a pinch of salt now?

Have you been looking out for them? Serves you right for reading the Daily Mail. :-)
The Press print any fabrication they think will appeal to their readers - the "Mystery Plane Disappearance" is a classical example. The Mucky Media fantasies get wilder and wilder - with no respect or sympathy for relatives of passengers involved.

So yes, pass the salt.

Believe me...I've not been looking out for them, and the Daily Mail wasn't the only news source to carry the story.

There's an article about it in The Guardian which is pretty *** shocking. I remember the whole thing from December, and hadn't thought about it until a couple of weeks ago...and now this story has emerged that...well, basically everything was made up!

But once again - it wasn't only the Daily Mail...this was a story carried by a number of news outlets.

How did this come to pass???
I guess they wanted to cobble together a scare story and took the number of Polish people who came earlier as a basis for it.
its hardly the best time to come to Britain.

I remember a TV reporter turned up at the airport to wait for the 1st flight to arrive from Bulgaria packed with ' benefit tourists' . There were just 2 Bulgarian men on it who were moving to UK both had prearranged jobs waiting.
Prediction is not something one can guarantee will be right. I do not know the numbers, it never interested me to find out; but regardless how many have come from Bulgaria/Romania I feel one should be concerned that more and more are allowed access, when we know there is already a net influx of individuals into an already overcrowded country. We need to shed population to avoid the urban sprawl and sort the inadequate resources issue.
It was a scare story put about by the right wing press, in order to stir up xenophobia here in Britain, hoping that it would persuade people not to vote Labour. Simples !
Mikey, //hoping that it would persuade people not to vote Labour. //

Err? How do you work that one out?
Simples !
Do you know how you reached that conclusion - or have you gone off into a 'spin' again?
Its obvious naomi...the right wing press continually stir up xenophobia, you must have realised that before surely ? I have no intention of explaining it any further. Anyway, as sp1814 has said, and the evidence has shown us, it backfired this time.
Wasn't there a story in The Mail recently claiming that Labour hated all things British and that's why they allowed millions of Poles to come here and undermine all the traditional values and traditions we hold so dear?
The DM will do anything it can to persuade people to vote Tory and not Labour. Its a right-wing newspaper, thats what right-wing newspapers do !
Lets not forget it was the paper that supported the Black Shirts.
Mikey, you have no intention of explaining it further because that red mist has descended again. Your obsession with the Labour party creeps into practically every thread regardless of the subject. Additionally, I’ve told you before concern that the country is allowing more people to come here than the infrastructure is able to support is not xenophobia – it’s concern.
