If you were a burglar and had climbed through the window to burgle a property why would you then lock yourself into the bathroom? The ONLY reason for the door locked would be if his girlfriend was trying to escape from him. But I think we all know that.
Thanks DT, now I remember:-) If I was guilty and pleading not guilty, I'd rather be tried by a jury. On the other hand, If I was not guilty and pleaded not guilty, then I'd rather be tried by just a judge. I think, without any supporting evidence I have to say, that you are more likely to be BTR by a judge than a jury.
what is BTR please?

I think he's as guilty as sin of murder and wouldn't be surprised if he changed his plea half-way through the trial.
Can they do that in a SA court? I've no idea about their legal procedings.
Bang to rights Alba
aah, thanks Grassy x
Banged to Rights alba. And do you think he'll get away with it, with woman judge?
I think he's as guilty as sin (I've mentioned that on a few threads) and I still tihink his lawyers will change his plea to something along the lines of 'diminished responsibilty' or some such.

(I still think OJ was guilty too but grandstanding by lawyers didn't do any good)

Agree grasscarp.
Not sure he will change his plea though, I'm not that clear on SA justice system but I think reasonable doubt still applies and he will be found not guilty on that basis.
You wake up in the night, hear someone in the bathroom, and shoot them through the door just in case they're a burglar.

We've all done it.
..It's like that time I heard someone walking behind me in the street, so I turned round and smashed them in the face in case they were going to mug me - turns out it was just some old lady, but you know, better safe than sorry.

I just don't know about this one and am wavering.

One thing I wonder about is the setting, whether it is a more dangerous place to be, more people armed (raiders with risk of death or serious injury to householders) etc..., especially for someone famous and wealthy who is a potential target who has had intruders previously (if I remember that right?).

It seems to me that guns are quite common there?
Caribeing has made a very good point here, Whether Pistorious meant to murder his girlfriend or a burglar, it amounts to murder nevertheless. The Police have never been looking for anybody else in this case. Pistorious killed her...of that there is no doubt, as he admits that it was him that pulled the trigger.

His defence of "I thought it was somebody else" is extremely weak, to say the least. I can't really see how he can off.
Its important to note that the law caught up with OJ eventually :::

Agreed mikey

'there was someone in my toilet

i didn't challenge them
I didn't call out or tell them i had a gun
or even fire a warning shot

I just shot them several times through the door'

Hmmm model citizen!
South Africa is a very violent country. I think he was extremely worried about crime, and it is feasible that he thought there was a burglar in the bathroom.
Like Ladybirder, I always lock the bathroom door - but if I woke up and heard someone in the bathroom I'd check my husband was still in bed before panicking. None of this story gels.
