Is anyone surprised by this? Do you think the 'victims' are jumping on the bandwagon?

Why was it a surprise? Did you miss the fact that he'd been arrested?
not so much a surprise, and i doubt it, if you go to the police with these type of allegations, you had better be prepared to tell the truth, liars will be found out, and i honestly can't see blokes prepared to tell all if there wasn't truth to it. A former boyfriend was sexually abused by an uncle, when he was a little boy, it took him 5 years to tell me, and as far as i know i was the only one he told

Yes I totally missed his arrest, perhaps I don't watch as much news as I thought.
Here's a local story where, just last week, a fireman was found guilty of what he did almost 40 years ago http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/10963101.Former_fireman_David_Bryant_jailed_for_six_years_for_raping_schoolboy_almost_40_years_ago/ - did the victim there also jump on a bandwagon?
This has been ongoing for months. I believe he was first arrested in 2013.
And I don't think people are jumping on the bandwagon or seeing pound signs (although there might be a few)
I read about this somewhere, a few weeks ago.

Does anyone know how the 'Ken Barlow' trial is going on, the Lee Travis one is reported on today, but nothing about 'Ken Barlow' is this not strange or have I missed something?

I think that there have been a lot of people who never came forward that are now encouraged to do so because they are seeing people being prosecuted.

They probably have a wide variety of motivations

Thank you ummmm & delboy3 for your informative links.
Also found this, which to my mind was hardly worth reporting on,

Why does there seem to be so little reporting on this case, especially by the national press?
-- answer removed --
When a trial goes on for weeks, the national press only picks out the most interesting bits of evidence viz. the juicy bits!
Beeb news - Judge directed jury to acquit on one charge. in the Bill Roache trial
There are many more 'ordinary' people found guilty of historical sexual abuse than celebrities, not surprising as celebrities are in the minority.

If this man were famous he'd have hit the national headlines.

We often had incest cases that were only prosecuted, the complainant keeping quiet for years, so , in itself, delay is not unknown. These cases now appearing are not confined to accusations against 'celebrities' but it is likely that the celebrity cases encourage victims to come forward. They may well think that if a celebrity, in spite of his fame and status, is prosecuted years after the event, then their own case against a nobody will be too
When are we going to see a case from 40 years ago involving a woman being the perpetrator? I've worked in all kinds of jobs, especially as a student and the worst behaviour was in places where the majority were women with a few, often young, males.
