Ah yes the Economist, despite their protestations they are certainly not middle of the road are they.
he is a dyed in the wool socialist, and came out with the policy before being elected, it was a promise to do it, some on here said it wouldn't happen, as it has to go through the higher court? well it's going ahead.

it's really a question of direct taxation v indirect taxation. The left have always preferred to have as much as the former as they can get away with. Always ignoring the fact that direct taxation can only ever account for a small percentage of revenue.
