There is something very sinister about this story (if it is indeed true). What kind of person would do something like this - a narcissist?

Must be an april fools joke 237SJ.
Not sinister, unprofessional certainly, it would appear that the surgeon was doing work on the liver with a laser and decided to leave his mark!
Well artists sign their work, so why shouldn't a surgeon?

I wonder if he left a hashtag and a "like" me on Facebook message as well?
That's offal.
Saw that, not on, is it?
intentionally harming a patient - sounds very weird. You have to hope this sort of thing isn't going on all the time.
What IS the big deal?
No harm to patient whatsoever.
Sqad....isn't there anything at all wrong with branding a patients organs during surgery then ? Isn't it even a little bit unprofessional ?

This is one of the most extraordinary stories I have heard in a long time.
It is silly, it is stupid, but no harm will come and we do not know how significant the "branding" is.....3 cms.....5 cms.......100cmms.

Who would be likely to see it? Presumably it was seen by the 2nd surgeon during a laparoscopy and he saw fit to report it.

As I said in my post above, it wouldn't harm the patient and no, I have never heard of such a thing before.................................if it is true.
Thanks Sqad...hope you had a nice Xmas Day .............paella and chestnut stuffing perhaps ?
mikey...LOL....just the old lady and myself...the usual....she is a romantic ( well she has to be married to me)

I hope that you and your family had a nice Xmas too.
No big deal: he's a specialist just like a watchmaker. I have a pocket watch 130 years old, and every time the movement was operated upon, the watchmaker left his mark on the inside of the case.
stewey..........LOL

When i first saw the OP, I thought it said "braising a Human Liver" and cannibalism came to mind.

Before gastric ulcers were treated medically surgery was often the treatment of choice, a partial gastrectomy (removal of part of the stomach that contained the ulcer. Tow clamps were placed across the whole stomach and with an electric knife the stomach was divided between the clamps. This produced a burning situation whereby a pungent smoke was produced which to me and others smelled delicious............

Arrogant bar steward imho
If no harm caused to liver its probably a spat between two egotistical surgeons who dislike one another.
grumpy........LOL.....that happens more times than you might imagine.
Never thought of what they did to me many years ago when I had a partial gastrectomy sqad, hope my surgeon enjoyed my burning stomach - it did the trick, my life was completely different once I had recovered.
Brenden..LOL.

I hope that you haven't come across any situations that " you no longer have the stomach for."

// What IS the big deal?
No harm to patient whatsoever. //

No harm done, but not very pleasant either. A bit like if got a bloke in to do some gardening and he did a sh1t on your compost heap.
