why is it always sad news, i too loved her in that film,
her sister Olivia De Haviland is still alive aged 97, so both at a ripe old age,
Agreed - didn't realise she was the sister of Olivia de Haviland until I heard it on the news this morning
i am big film fan and know so much trivia about films and the stars, and did know they were sisters,

So sad they never got to reconcile though
-- answer removed --
RIP Joan. Heard that she and her sister had a lifelong feud and were never reconciled. Sad, but these things happen.
Good grief, there aren't many of us left !!!

WR.
never mind, WR, your great Hollywood movies will outlive us all!
Yes, she was marvellous in Rebecca and Olivier was even better, but read the book. Better than any film or TV version ! In the book, there was never any doubt whatsoever that Max De Winter shot Rebecca. Not by accident but entirely on purpose and with "malice a forethought"

And yet, De Winter comes out as the hero !

Never understood why Hitchcock got it so wrong !
Question Author
Because you cannot have Olivier as a bad guy that's probably why
Have you ever seen the screen test for Vivien Leigh as second Mrs De Winter?
Good job she did not get it - she was far too beautiful
