emmie, then surely every part of Scotland could argue not to leave the Union. Aberdeenshire might want to go, but Lothian might want to stay.

It will be the majority vote and we'll all have to accept the outcome.

What about their yu.man rites? from the act of union they were largely enslaved by the Scottish. They are known to have more loyalty to London, even Oslo rather than Dunnedin.

but it won;t be only Scottish people decide, going on the other threads on this subject. Those foreigners, like us English, or Irish, Welsh if they live in Scotland will get a vote if they are on the electoral roll.

One could then argue that since the Act of Union the Scots have been enslaved by the English.

The Shetlanders and Orcadians will have the same vote as everyone else in Scotland. They will use it as they wish.

My point is that there may have been "enslavement" hundreds of years ago, I very much doubt that anyone could really say that is true now.

have they, do you know why the act of union came about, not to mention the country was bankrupt. If Scotland wants to go it's own way then fine, it will include votes from non Scottish people, and if it does it should be completely out on its own. A full break, not a pick and choose what i want, so that means separate tax system, NHS, armed forces, which has been a proposal, not sure how that would work, but sure someone will find out. It will also have to apply to join the EU. I think we are better together but it isn't my call

I don't think it's relevant how the Act of Union came about. Surely the voters should decide on what is best for Scotland now, not what happened hundreds of years ago.

And I agree, independence should mean a complete break.

but it is because it has affected people's thinking, perception for centuries. Enslavement, if you think that i would find that quite strange. I don't think my over the years, many Scottish friends think they were, are enslaved.
But it will be decided in part by people who likely have no Scottish roots,
as i said, if you live there, are not Scottish, you will get a vote, yes or no.

emmie, I only used the word enslavement as TTT had used it to refer to the relationship between Orkney and Shetland.

I don't think the Scots are enslaved to England.

I think the Scots (and anyone living here) should try to look past all the history and vote in accordance with what would serve the country best today, not going back to the times of William Wallace et al.

ok, i would rather we all got along together, better together than apart. I think Alex Salmond has his own agenda, and that isn't conducive to many Scottish folk who wish to remain part of the United Kingdom. We should have got past all the history, many from both sides of the borders don't know their own history, let alone why the union came about.

We should also remember that the vote is not about Alex Salmond, it's about the future of Scotland.

You can loathe the man but still want independence, or love him but want to stay in the Union.
