Is it any more wasteful to leave food on your plate than to eat it if you're already full?

If I'm full I can't eat anymore so I'd leave it on my plate.
''leave food on your plate''

Sorry I don't understand...
I'm a pretty good judge of how much my family can eat when I'm plating a meal. However, when I have guests I almost always serve food on platters for guests to help themselves so that what is left can be served the next day or frozen for a later date.

If I was confronted with a slice of beef and a new potato on my plate when feeling full I would always make room for the beef and sacrifice the spud!
I would say its only wasteful if you have served yourself with the meal and chosen your portion. In a restaurant then no its not wasteful as you had no control of the portion. I would never clean my plate just for the sake of it.
Lol, snags. I agree completely. It's just as wasteful to eat food you don't need as it is to throw it away. And it's more harmful. I understand the reasoning from those who had to make the most of what they had with rationing, etc. But obesity is a bigger problem now. Children should be encouraged to stop eating when they're full. Even if you are a top dietician, it doesn't necessarily mean you can judge exactly the right amount of food per meal. That is why your body is able to tell you. After all, you only need to eat enough to survive until your next meal.
