Sweden grants blanket asylum to Syrian refugees:

http://tribune.com.pk/story/599235/sweden-grants-blanket-asylum-to-syrian-refugees/

"“All Syrian asylum seekers who apply for asylum in Sweden will get it,” said Annie Hoernblad, the spokesperson for Sweden’s migration agency"

"Those granted permanent status will also be allowed to bring their families to Sweden."

Do we have the compassion of the Swedes in our fair country?

Its a brave thing that the Swedes are doing, as there are estimates of over 2 million refugees already, and thats before we start bombing.
Don't think that proposal will last long, especially if they enter the country penniless - I shall wait and see.
I used to visit Sweden quite a lot in the 80's and 90's and I always saw a lot of obviously Swedish families, all with platinum blonde hair, but with a black or Asian child as well. My friends told me that it was quite common for Swedish people to adopt orphans from other countries.

I hope Sweden will set us all a good example by their actions...far too much sitting on the fence over Syria for my liking.
No.
We will pledge an additional £52million, but we will not want them anywhere near our shores. Throwing money at the problem lets us boast "we are the biggest donor" while Sweden is actually doing something more immediately helpful to those made homeless by the conflict.
Well said Gromit !

Are all the knuckledraggers still asleep this morning ?
Are the Swedes going to send large planes to bring them all into their country?
I went to Sweden about 15 years ago on business.

As I was walking round the town centre with my Swedish work colleague I saw loads of Asian men sitting in a group in a local square.

I asked what they were doing there and he said that years earlier Volvo had needed more workers so had arranged to bring in Asian people to do the work.

Then they had had a change of plan and out sourced the work to another country so these Asian workers had now been laid off and could not get other work.

Bringing in immigrants and asylum seekers is NOT always a good long term solution, far better to help them in their own country.

Also, Sweden have had some riots recently about involving immigration so this may not go down too well.

No we don't have that kind of compassion, immigration is always at the top of the political agenda, looking at ways we can send people back to their own countries, complaining about them taking our own jobs. I expect the £52 million aid package will come under great criticism aswell
and how do they get there ?
Do they have to swim ?
yes, and then some that's why we are full.
We are not "full" tora....you may not want to receive any more refugees but its not because we are "full"

"full" is a funny concept TTT - could you expand on what you mean by it? It changes from person to person when it comes to defining it.

Mikey, I think we could point out lots of different extreme groups in every country. Maybe a Syrian fleeing the pincer movement of militant fundamentalist Muslims and a totalitarian government quite fancies merely being harassed by the Swedish National Front.

Maybe Sweden are looking for more of this stuff for the national teams: http://worldsoccertalk.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/ibrahimovic-bicycle-kick.gif

I wonder if it's the fact that immigrants are expected to "become Swedish" whereas in the UK we've taken the approach of letting foreign cultures exist within our own?

Not any more we don't, otherwise why would we stand idly by and fail to intervene while they're being subjected to chemical weapons attacks, would we?

One of your knuckledraggers has woke up eh mikey?

It is time the likes of you woke up, no we are not full up if you count persons per acre, but where we are full-up which is more realistic is that the infrastructure is full-up.

Have you not noticed that there are not enough homes for all the people, not enough room in our overstretched NHS, and not enough school places, it has recently been reported that almost half of school districts in England will have more primary pupils than places within two years?

Could the reason be because we are 'FULL' and one of the reasons is because of this,

Nah, it just takes a while to get here, wading through all that p*ss from the great unwashed and bedwetting handwringers, since you asked!
Mikey, who are 'the knuckledraggers'?

/// I hope Sweden will set us all a good example by their actions...far too much sitting on the fence over Syria for my liking. ///

And what do you suggest we do then, as already pointed out by Gromit we have pledged an additional £52million, or is this not enough, do you want us fighting side by side with those rebels, in which case will you give your ultimate support and join the territorials or even just go out there and get stuck in all by yourself?

Just remember "actions speak stronger than words"
when I say full I mean the ability to support people. School places medical care etc etc. You could stand all the people of the world on the Isle of wight so I'm not talking about geographical space. I'm talking about the infrastructure and the ability a finance the whole thing. we are full!
naomi, the "knuckledraggers" are those of us who do not unquestioningly subscribe to the official right on left wing trendy view about any given subject.
