Is there still something called potted meat?

Is that a thing?

I'm sure it used to be a thing when I was little.

Oh yes - best bought from the butchers or make your own. Sutherlands is ok but nothing special.

Yes and potted salmon as well Marks Spencers is good handy for a sandwich spread or on toast

I used to make potted meat years ago, it was made from the cheeks of the steer, but here in northeast scotland the slaughter houses were not allowed to sell the heads to the butcher, i do believe you can still buy it from some butchers but using a different cut of meat.
My son in law always calls pate potted meat.
When we started our Christmas dinner with pate he took great delight in telling everyone that I had served potted meat .
This sounds good - not sure if I've ever had it before.
I eat potted beef and beetroot sandwiches..............the daughter thinks they're disgusting.

Is it the same as potted hough ? It looked gross and I could never face eating it

Would make a big batch and pot it up individually? How long does it last? A long time surely?
Not sure on a time scale but I may even consider freezing unless anyone knows a reason not to.

I'm not sure about making it at home.

It's all coming back to me. You used to have it in sandwiches when you had a picnic. The sandwiches didn't fall apart, no matter what, because the potted meat glued them together.
It used to be kept in a cool larder with a seal of melted butter but i would freeze it nowadays.
It's a South Yorks delicacy. You can buy it from most butchers shops round here.
