With the bombings the other week and this latest incident:

are we seeing a growing tendency toward Islamophobia?

"There are times when swearing is entirely acceptable."

Yeah, and it's not here.
Fair enough.
I think there is a growing trend toward a justifiable lack of respect for islam which it only has itself to blame for. I wouldn't call that islamaphobia.

No country that lives under islamic rule can regard itself as a success and until it addresses its out of date attitudes to democracy, individual freedom, education, human rights etc it will continue to ,rightly in my opinion, be looked down upon.
I think there are plenty of stupid people about who don't see the difference between Islam and radical Islamist

They also think the sort of female repressive Arabic Islam is typical of it all

Pakistan had a Muslim female prime minister twice

Yet to see a female American president

I guess some people just aren't bright enough to cope with concepts more complex than Good vs Bad
Jake.......take it easy...........

\\\\I think there are plenty of stupid people about who don't see the difference between Islam and radical Islamist \\\

What people are worried about is how foes one tell the difference between Muslim and a radical Muslim, it is that that causes the phobia and i would hardly call them "stupid people."
"the words "Arab" and "Muslim", are starting to become interchangeable with "Pedophile" and "Suicide Bomber" in the heads of a large section of the Great Braindead British public."

You probably wouldn't be surprised that its also intelligent people who place all their skewed views, opinons and actions on the very basic concept of:

Muslim = bad person
Bad person = muslim

And rarely get to the next level.
Jake, they shot Benazir Bhutto. So in your opinion, leaving aside the actions of fundamentalists, people who aren’t very bright should ignore the ‘moderate’ views that have been expressed here, just as the supposedly ‘bright’ do? Have I got that right?
They don't ignore them, perhaps just grow tiresome of the same rhetoric over and over and over and over in R&S perhaps ?
I think it's clear that for some Islamophobia is the last acceptable prejudice. People who might think themselves liberal, and who would be outraged if they were accused of racism or homophobia, are quite happy to tar all of the Islamic world with the same brush.
Octavius, if they find it tiresome, they should stop reading the same rhetoric over and over and over and over in R&S perhaps? No one is under any obligation.
There is certainly some anti-islam feeling in some parts of UK, but whether there is a movement that is growing is another matter.
Perhaps those who think that only stupid people are suspicious of Islam, and deem any criticism ‘Islamophobic’ would like to answer the question I asked in my post at 19:25 Tue 27th Aug 2013.
I'd agree Sandy - I thought Nick Robinson's "of muslim appearance" gaffe was a pretty clunking example
naomi, "they should stop reading the same rhetoric over and over and over and over in R&S perhaps? No one is under any obligation."

Your post at 09.45 suggests otherwise, but nevermind.

sandy, I would agree also.
Octavius, my post at 09.45 relates to this thread in News - and still no one is under obligation to read it. However, let us not disrupt the discussion with nit-picking.
Octavius, your ott post of 9.36 is actually only true of a very tinyl amount of the great british public.
naomi, I ususally take your reference to 'nitpicking' as a tacit acknowledgement that your argument has been debased, but in reference to your 19.25 post - was that not aimed directly at keyplus?
Quick apology octavius. After re-reading i see they're not your words. sorry.
Possibly doctorb, but is it ever growing?
Octavius, you do? Strange. It's quite clear that my post at 19.25 was addressed to Keyplus in response to his at 15:24 Tue. I began it with his name.
