Oh dear, it would appear that even the captain's of industry have no interest.

Does the UK really warrant that amount to be spent? Were these islands of an equal size to say France, with its TGV etc I could understand but it does seem a massive outlay and the costs appear to far outweigh the benefits.

Chill, I totally agree with you. Makes much more sense to spend that money and upgrade ALL existing trains, stations, carriages, lines , services etc throughout the entire UK. That way, we could ALL benefit.
the costs, disruption and the amount it will take to build will likely negate it's actual use.
jan totally agree, some of our stations are a disgrace, and i have often worried that one of these days venturing forth to see countryside relatives, i will slip and roll unceremoniously down the gap between a train and the platform, such is the gap at one place that could easily happen. I struggle as it is to get a suitcase onto some trains, and there isn't always someone to help me haul it onto the train.

It would seem that opposition is mounting against this project. The difficulty is that no matter what the cost is supposed to be, the final cost will be much, much higher. It always happens with big projects. And if all it means that business people can get to Brum 15 mins earlier, I'm not sure that this huge cost is justified. As we are likely to get a new government before a spade is put into the ground, it looks like it will never happen.
there was massive opposition from the start, only those in power were not listening.
t won't be up and running till 2026 or so i read, that could be longer not sure, by that stage perhaps we will have decided that paying premium prices to get to Brum 15 minutes earlier a waste of time and money.
Helps people get out of Brum that much quicker too!!

Hopefully it will die shortly before we spend too much more. The goalposts have moved and surely the appitite for it has dwindled. The money could be spent on our current network which would have far more benefit for a much larger number of people.
It would be cheaper to demolish London completely and re-build it all much closer to Birmingham.
