An Idea For The News Section

News contributors - I want to propose something...

For the next week, can we try altering our responses so that we only address the question raised, ignoring the temptation to score points, engage in one-upmanship, or make personal digs.

This isn't a criticism of anyone in particular, because God only knows I'm as guilty as anyone...

I just want to see whether it gets more interesting if we focus on the issues, and leave everything else aside.

In the spirit of this, I will not make disparaging remakes about the Daily Mail, UKIP, knuckle-draggers etc.

Of course, if it renders the News section boring, we can all go back to hurling barely disguised insults at each other.

Whaddya say?

/// how do you attack news? ///

Simply by directing any necessary abusive bile etc, towards the news item and not the reporting source.
the reason people criticise the source, in the case of the Daily Mail, is its well documented record of making things up. There's little point in criticising the news itself if it's false.

/// I beg to differ. They purvey slanted, biased, one sided, misleading, knee jerk, pandering to prejudices, highly targeted stories. Not full depth. ///

In your opinion.

Slanted, bias, one sided????????????? incorrect they are not afraid to attack or carry out an investigation no matter who their target happens to be, and don't forget who conducted the campaign to bring the Steven Lawrence killers to justice.
And weren't you the one who said that story should be put to bed?
This truce doesn't appear to have lasted very long sp1814, but it was worth a try !
^^ :o)

I know...I know...

But hey...it was worth a try.
Yes, AOG, the Daily Mail conducted a valuable campaign in the Lawrence case.

Pity is, as we constantly illustrate on here, the other charges mentioned above are factually accurate. But the Daily Mail knows its readership and that readership is as shown by the Audit Bureau of Circulations. It is not a typical one. The Mail writes what it thinks that readership wants to read.
The liberatti are a 'pack' of bullies. I treat each news thread on its merit. Sometimes I'm swayed by an angle I'd never thought of. Sometimes my thoughts have been posted by another.
But the same old, left wing, 'faces' spout the same interminable, idealogically driven drivel on every thread.
Gromit has surprised me, on occasion, by taking a pragmatic view on a thread. The rest of you are so predictable I don't know why you bother. Try reading a different paper now and again.

LOL

No publication would last long that only wrote what its readership 'DIDN'T' want to read.

Nicely put.
Indeed, AOG, but you may have missed the innuendo
"In the spirit of this, I will not make disparaging remakes about the Daily Mail, UKIP, knuckle-draggers etc."

As far as i can remember we're in a democratic society and not iran or korea so why should people be told what to say in fear of upsetting one person here?

I will stick to my core beliefs that the groups mentioned above are indeed racist and knuckle dragging morons as are whoever who follows them. I find it amazing that many people that follow them don't really have a real clue at what these groups are about nor have many of them actually attended any marches and chooses to cherry pick a few points from their "Manifesto" and i use that term extremely loosely but look the other way at the racial and violent core beliefs that these apes live by.

I dont think it is insulting to say that knuckle dragging morons read the Daily Mail,
who pray is being insulted ?
Hyperbole perhaps - most dont read

Sad to read a strange comment like that from someone using Svejk as an avatar.
Or is it irony :-)
I have seen this term used many times on AB but I still cannot work out what it means.
What is a knuckle dragger? Thanks.
The news section lately has turned into something of bloodsport so its worth a try SP. I doubt of certain people will adhere to it though
/What is a knuckle dragger? Thanks./

leah

a form of primate who's stature is such that their hands reach the ground when they walk demonstrating the primitive stage their evolution has reached.

BTW The Daily Mail gathers its news to a particular 'filtering' agenda

A friend worked as a 'stringer' with them and that is how they were briefed

they are not the only paper to do this but they do it more than most
"This truce doesn't appear to have lasted very long sp1814, but it was worth a try ! "

as you got slapped down by the AB editor in this post that says it all really
knuckledragger is the term bandied about by the mainly lefties on here who hate people like me because i wont bow down and conform to their views/ideology etc on immigration, mainly.
