whilst in the queue at the checkout.
Elderly couple, slightly hard of hearing, she asks him if he's got money on him.
He said no, you picked it up from the top of the washing machine.
She said she hadn't.
They were a tenner short of paying their bill.
Man in front of me paid the tenner.

I thought that was really nice.

How lovely, gives you a nice warm feeling.
They've been using that trick for years. ;)

was it psybbo and tony, oops, fetch me coat!

My thoughts exactly doctor,
bit deaf = speak-up so queue hears what's said,
a tenner's a nice round number, not too much to hope for!

lol Doctorb :-D

They're known locally and are a nice couple.

I think that the man's parents must be really proud of the wonderful way they're raised him.
You don't see that very often. The odd few pence, yes, but a tenner. Good on him.
Awww bless.

Oi.

Very nice gesture that, ah wench, not many around like him.
What a lovely gesture
I love it when you get to see brilliant people shining. What a lovely man :)
I did that once to a young boy about 11, he had saved hard to buy a new mobile phone and was with his mum and was so excited, what he didn't count on was the £10 you also have to pay to top it up. He was devastated, I of course offered to pay the £10 but his mother said no he had to learn, poor wee soul, gutted.
I'm afraid that is the trouble with people today, they do not help, when help is needed in some cases, do you not think it's the case of "THINK ABOUT MYSELF" and sod everybody else?
As a species, we are the cruellest on this planet. However, acts of kindness and generosity prove that most of us can rise about cruelty. Well done to him.
I think that most people are decent but many are afraid to react in such a situation (for a myriad of reasons) or too slow to act.

Spoonboy is correct that we 'can' be a cruel and horrible species and the runner-up is the Chimp, our nearest relative in the animal world.
I was once behind an elderly couple who were buying a microwave oven. They'd left their cheque book at home and apologised to the assistant, saying they'd have to return it to the shelf.

I told the assistant to put it on my card along with my shopping, and told the couple to send me a cheque. As we left the shop, my husband said to me, "That's the last you'll see of your 50 quid".

A couple of days later I received the cheque, plus a thank you card.

There are a lot of swindlers in the world, but fortunately there are a lot of good peeps as well.
Mrs Chappie - YOU are one of the good peeps. Bless you, that was lovely of you to do that.
Everytime we're working up in London on nights we get crackheads and beggars coming up to our van asking for cigarettes or money, we always tell them to piss off

But in genuine cases like this I'd gladly help someone out
Thanks Millie. My husband felt sure it was a set up. I just knew it wasn't. Sometimes you have to go with your instincts.
Once people get out of their cars they remember what its like to be human.
