Every one regrets the unavoidable loss of life in Okie
but no-one - I mean no-one
had been on camera and intoned: Ah prayed to Gawd Almaarty - oh Glory Halleluia, and Ah was saved.

[ while ma bay-bee was sucked out of ma arms and taken to Gods Heaven O G H]

The appeals to God and deliverance are such a feature of disasters in the Land of the Free - that I now really miss them

Why is God missing from this disaster having been present so often in the past ?

Any Ideas, boys and Girls ?

Was God there but has been censored out for us sinning Europeans ?

Here you go, Peter - just for you.

CNNs Wolf Blitzer asking a survivor is she thanked god for her miraculous survival - her response? Ermm I am an atheist - cue uneasy laughter.

Please take another look at mikeys steve bell reference and put us out of our misery by deciphering a sentence from your contribution? :)
But I bet someone has said that the rescue of some individual is "a miracle", without considering that their God has seen fit to allow others to be , non-miraculously, killed
Lazygun...nice clip but there is no sound when I try it ?

Good for her....there is one atheist in American at least !
@mikey Nor sure about your sound issue- I have tried it again and its working ok for me. I am no techie beyond giving something a good clout if it does not work immediately :)
Lazygun...a good clout worked ! Must have moved something when I was rearranging various souvenir coffee mugs that act as pencil tubs.

I thought she was very gracious after being patronised by daft American interviewer. Why wasn't he asking all those poor people in Oklahoma why their God had done this to them in the first place ? Christians never fail to amaze me.
I never understand why, when disasters strike and everyone is involved in life-saving efforts, someone wastes time by finding the biggest stars and stripes to fly or lay over the debris. This isn't a disparaging comment re America's overt patriotism, simply it wouldn't be a priority for me in that situation.
yes they did, i heard one chap say it, thank the Lord for his survival,
It's often a figure of speech. I always say 'thank God' and I'm an atheist.
///Ah prayed to Gawd Almaarty - oh Glory Halleluia, and Ah was saved.

I have watched/listened to many news reports on this particular disaster and have not heard anyone speak in your particularly unpleasant portrayal of an Oklahoma accent.

Shame on you for trivializing this horror by adding a completely superfluous attempt at humour. Adults and children have DIED for goodness sake.
i believe some people do turn to their God in times of trouble, and i expect these people would too.
I sense a mocking tone to P P's thread. All the tv coverage I've seen has shown people who have lost their homes and/or loved ones yet are behaving with great dignity.
If you're an athiest ummmm I would rather you said "thank goodness", but if you want to thank God then so be it.

Trivialising a disaster of this scale is well out of order imo!
Why would you rather that, Maggie?
I watched a clip where a woman found her missing dog and all she could say was "The Lord answered my prayers"
I'm amazed at the dissonace in statements like this. Does she really think that her Lawd God Almighty was saving her mutt while letting children die in the most horrible and frightening way? I believe she did and I think that we have reason to be concerned as, apparently, most US citizens feel this way.
I searched Oklahoma on YouTube and everything seems fine

Everyone was singing "Oh What A Beautiful Mornin"
Westboro Baptist Church has thanked God for the tornado, saying it’s because of gay basketball player Jason Collins.

and.....

Speaking outside Norman Regional Hospital Ninia Lay, 48, said she huddled in a closet through two storm alerts and the tornado hit on the third.
"I was hiding in the closet and I heard something like a train coming," she said under skies still flashing with lightning. The house was flattened and Lay was buried in the rubble for two hours until her husband Kevin, 50, and rescuers dug her out.

"I thank God for my cell phone, I called me husband for help."

So God is not entirely absent in all this.
Chrisgel....you have said everything. Why these dim people should continue to thank God and not blame him is a complete mystery to me.
God is man made. Oklahoma disaster is just that, the force of nature that could kill any one of us at anytime.

Please dont detract from survivors & their sorrow.
I wondered how long it would be before someone came up with some disparaging remarks about the Americans. Disgusting. I'm just waiting for some anti American idiot to claim it's due to climate change that they have caused.
