They claim it is "vintage inspired" but the Islands have never been known by the Argentinian name and what's more they have existed as the Falklands longer than Argentina has even existed. Unforgivable surely!

Jim....neither do I unfortunately...;-)......just me trying to be clever (not easy)
Perhaps they were made in Argentina. 'Hanging its head in shame' is a bit an an over-reaction.
*of an
Malvinas Islas is the Spanish for Falkland Islands
Question Author
No it is not, it's a proper name!
Question Author
proper noun.
Interesting that Google Earth has both names.
So does Wikipedia. Most places that aren't the UK or Argentina tend to use both, as a show of neutrality I suppose.
"This is classic DM Jingoistic b*llsh!t the sort of stuff people like AOG laps up."

how pathetic
but thats exactly what we expect from people of your ilk, I can hear the self righteous indignant hand wringing from here
"we"? what you and the three other knuckle draggers that lurk here?
No, they should not "hang it's head in shame" unless of course they did it deliberately. A rather hyperbolic over-reaction on behalf of Mr.Weston, it seems to me.

And obviously AP must be a cricket or something, if Baz can actually hear the sound of indignant hand wringing - i failed to detect any indignation from AP, to be honest....

The Falkland Islands are correctly called the Falkland Islands though.. :)
And those stupid Austrians call their capital Wien, when everybody in the UK knows that it is Vienna.
Not quite an appropriate comparison, stewey.

Vienna (or “Wien”) is indeed an Austrian city, in Austria and administered by the Austrians. The Falkland Islands is a British Overseas territory administered by the UK. The “mistake” made by whoever designed the globe for John Lewis is a matter of gross ineptitude probably perpetrated by somebody who has no respect for the islands, the islanders or for the people who made the ultimate sacrifice in 1982. It’s more than just a name and there is no excuse for it.
By Jove, New Judge, that's as scandalous as calling some islands les Iles de la Manche ! Dammit, The French don't own all the Channel Islands !

Quite safe with the English Channel though. Everybody knows we own that, don't they ? Nobody calls it "The Sleeve" , for which God be thanked
Should every one with a Blackberry, iPhone or Android phone hold their heads in shame?

The mobile map app on every smartphone includes (Las Malinas) on the isles.

I really do fail to see why the Daily Wailers get so wound up over such a trivial error. The Globes were probably manufactured in China and the antique map they copied was not British.
Agree with the NO vote seeing that it was a mistake and has been rectified, why on earth should they highlight something like this which wasn't done intentionally for goodness sake?
Because the Mail has told us of this, life must end today.
