when i was made redundant after 28 years,i had to phone up job centre to make appointment to see an adviser,i was told i didnt qualify for jsa due to severance pay, only got ni credits.dont expect them to fall over themselves to help you.
And further to tt6688, as long have you have paid sufficient NI in the previous 2 tax years, you can claim contribution based JSA for six months, no matter how much redundancy you get.
Now – they will only pay JSA from the date of your first interview (with them). You should arrange the interview for the end of March.
When I claimed it about a year ago, despite registering on-line on the first day of my unemployment – it was only paid from the interview date, so I lost a week (or circa £70).
I think, Hymie, your claim starts from the date of the application (provided you are eligible to claim), not the date of the interview- but no JSA is payable for the first 3 days, and then it may be two weeks before you first receive some money
I would submit a claim online from the first day after you finish. (I don't think it can be made and post-dated earlier because in theory your employer could change its mind and ask you to stay a bit longer). Also , if you are getting PILON (pay in lieu of notice) then your claim may have to wait for a period equal to your foregone notice period
You can submit your claim on line on the 1st April. In fact if your last working day is Thursday 28th March you could submit a claim online on Friday 29th (Good Friday)
thanks all. Sorry humber i can't even remember the email address i used!
compressed answer is that no planning permission man has moved on, and stayed over a year man now has a enforcement notice on his boat (however the canal has recently been closed to traffic cause of the high table so he couldn't even move if he wanted(which he doesn't))
Just seen this question, you can make a claim in advance if you know there will be a future change in circumstances. It makes sense to do so since it takes time to arrange the initial interview at the Jobcentre and process the claim.
