that the Chris Huhne and Vicky Pryce story has become idiotic ? Prison after their lives are already ruined. For such a minor offence.

because the same police officer had pulled her over for the same thing three days before, MT.
It was hypothetical.

My tyres don't wear down because I hardly drive any miles.
//Are you a commie JJ?// Good grief, what pomposity! An estimated 3,000,000 people in the UK either have, or know of someone who has similarly swapped places to avoid points. We'd better get a major prison-building programme underway with some urgency.
Minor offence ? Sorry perverting the course of justice is NOT minor .
Even worse was Huhne constantly lying through his teeth after he had been found out.

It was hypothetical.

But could you not see the flaws in it?
it's still lying

in court, which is where people go, or get taken, to ensure equitable treatment for everyone
Khandro, climb down old son, my comment was in relation to JJs Totalitarian comment so a bit of a side issue, not a comment on the main topic.
I heard 0.5 million, not 3, Khandro............
MT ... aren't we all flawed?

Eddie ... Perving the C of J is not (of itself) "minor"

But I think most offences can be less or more serious. For instance ...

Speeding at 72 on the motorway ... not serious

Speeding at 60 through the town centre ... serious, reckless, unforgivable

Perverting the course of justice by hiding evidence about a murderer ... Serious, unforgivable

Perverting the course of justice by claiming it was not you who broke the speed limit on the motorway ... slightly less serious
"no officer I didn't know I had a bald tyre" or "it was her driving" Where do you draw the line at a little white lie? "He was with me officer" - Maxine Carr.
Yes it is less serious - but at what point do you draw the line?
JJ your argument that this is just about speeding and does not matter is just plain WRONG. The speeding was a minor matter , I just do not see why he just didn't accept the points and get on with his life. It was the lying once he had been found out , he only changed his plea at the last second once he saw that he had no hope of getting a 'not guilty'.
Sorry , but we do expect better of those who lead us and run the government , they do have to have a higher standard of behavouir than the 'common man'.
If an MP can lie about this how can we ever trust any of them ?
Lying about a traffic offence ...

Lying about multiple murder ...

If I was pushed, barmaid,I think I could just about draw a line between those two.

:0)
Does lying about a rape between the two?
Eddie// If an MP can lie about this how can we ever trust any of them? //

Never mind the expenses issue, have you seen the stats of how many court cases have been against them? - it's seriously frightening.
come between ^ the two
Whichever way you look at it it is STILL lying to pervert the course of justice. The difference is reflected in the sentence.
Surely lying is lying. Ok, people probably do take speeding points for others, etc but if they get caught presumably they would face the same treatment. Also, she only coughed up when he dumped her and he lied continuously, using the stem to suit their own ends. Personally, I think it is good that they have gone to prison. They used the law to suit themselves and now are paying the price.
Not ^ stem, system
You can't PTCoJ 'a little bit'........

You either have, or you haven't. They had and have been convicted of doing so.
