Probably on display in the British Museum for all to gawp at. I wonder how they can possibly tell after all this time, and why Richard III, why not some other king or in all probability some poor little sod who got embroiled in their wars (if the skull is that old). Unless, of course it was wearing a crown or had traces of blue blood around it (sorry just being facetious).
Whether it is him or not, back in the ground ?
You are right OG and that's where he should stay. I wonder how they knew he was under the carpark?
Leicester isn't north!
If the DNA tests do reveal it to be Richard III then he ought to be buried next to his wife Anne Neville in Westminster Abbey.
He was the last Enbglish King to die in battle on British soil and it's likely to be him Star ( I hope it's him) because he was buried in the Church onf the Greyfirars after the battle of Bosworth in Leicester. At the dissolution of the monasteries the church was sacked and his body was allegedly chucked into the river Soar- but that's been disputed for a long time. They havge DNA tested his sister's descendants to make sure they have the right chap or not. I'm so excited to seeif it's actually him, he was the last Egnlish King to really die a hero and as such deserves recognition and a proper burial.
hes bound to have a mcdonalds milkshake carton with him..
If the council had known this earlier, they probably would have put up the charges !! To be parked on top of a King is treally something special LOL
I have a hunch it's Richard.

(had to get that in before anyone else did).
I've been in that car park dozens of times, it is the Social Services building and I was brought up in the care system in Leicester, so it's very possible I've walked over his grave.

I must admit it is very interesting NOX. Although I was facetious about it in my other post I shall still be watching to see if it really is him. Is it only his skull or was the rest of his skeleton there as well?
They found quite a few bones, including a spine which showed marked signs of scoliosis.
They will know as they've traced a familly tree (took 2 years) and found someone in Canada related.

They use mitochopndrial DNA Which is different from the DNA that is in the nucleus of cells and doesn't get reproduced sexualyy so it is passed down a maternal line with little change - yours is just like your mothers and her mothers etc.

There have also been facial reconstructions which bear a resemblance to contemporary portraits.

I guess there are a few candidate places for burial - St. Georges Chapel Winsor, Westminster Abbey or one of the Northern Cathedrals as he ruled as virtual monarch up there for most of his life.

Not sure the Queen will be too keen on Richard being buried in St George's

A/ He's always got the princes in the Tower thing hanging over him

B/ He's a bit of a reminder of the discontinuities in her familly's supposedly continuous sucession.

Henry VII who killed Richard at Bosworth and was Henry VIII's father had a rather dubious claim to the throne!
The Queen was very obstructiuve about the skeletons they found under the staircase in the Tower, really ridiculous woman on this subject. As you say though she's really got bugger all to do with the rightful claim to the throne so she's likely to be touchy ;-)
I imagine everywhere will be queueing up to have him planted in their place if it is him because he's going to be a hell of a crowd puller for the next few years.
if it is him, then reburied in Westminster Abbey.
Send for a Scandinavian "A norse, a norse, my kingdom............" I'll get my coat.
Everyone is very excited here in the County - its live on Radio Leicester at the moment, due to be announced at a press conference at 10am! Journalists from all round the world gathered there .................. it MUST be him, with all this hype, they can't really say "Sorry, it's Joe Bloggs, the local tramp!" ooops , egg on face :))
and .......youngmafbog - we are not "up North" as you put it, we are NE Midlands .......
He will have some parking fine now .
We're the archeologists working on a hunch?

(I'll get me coat)
I hope it's him too, and I think he should be buried alongside his wife. I think it's a great story!
/// we are not "up North" as you put it, we are NE Midlands ..///

Correction East Midlands.
