Surely the promotion of any sexualty over another is wrong. I think the Russians are being very sensible.

@NJ we live in a democracy. People are entitled to campaign for whatever they wish, however distasteful you personally find it.The reason we do not see calls for straight pride carnivals, or white police associations except on forums like these is because no one feels strongly enough to organise such things- as commented before, straights are hardly a demonised, victimised minority, and the same is true for white police officers.

And as far as Gay Pride is concerned - OG contends they are now equal - In law thats technically true, but, based upon comments from friends and acquaintances of mine that are gay, discrimination and abuse still abounds. So I can fully understand gay people who wish to celebrate their sexuality, with events like gay pride. If they were to advertise such events as for gays only, then you might have a point - but they do not.

If it makes you uncomfortable, don't look - but I fail to see why they should all tug their forelocks and creep around in the shadows simply to appease those in society who are disconcerted by the idea that other folks have a different sexual orientation.
It does not offend me, make me uncomfortable or trouble me in any way, LG. As I think I have said, what people get up to in private is very much their own affair. So long as it does not effect me and I don't have to watch it or pay for it I'm completely indifferent.

I'm simply puzzled.
So they can do what they like "as long as it doesn't frighten the horses" (can't remember who said that about sex), eh, NJ ?
Yup, pretty much so Fred. (I cannot remember who said it either).

It doesn't mean I'm not puzzled by the activities and attitudes displayed by some and that is the case here. Unfortunately lack of understanding or empathy is often misunderstood and interpreted as bigotry or prejudice.
NJ, the quote is more apposite than we may.have thought. When an actress in the company said that one, senior, actor was showing a bit too much open affection for a young actor,Mrs Patrick Campbell replied "Does it really matter what these affectionate people do, so long as they don't do it in the street and frighten the horses ? " A sentiment with which I fully agree !
