I notice a tenner credited to my account. It must be my Christmas gift from the government. When this was first given out it would have bought a family Christmas dinner and enough left over for a box at the local pantomime. NOw it won't even buy a bottle of wine.
How much would it need to be now to have kept pace with inflation? I think it was first given out during Jim Callaghan's time as PM, in the late 70s.

what tenner? how do you get that!
Thats a tenner more than i have received from the government this year so perhaps you should be grateful!!
it's the Christmas bonus..
My elderly parents get this when the weather drops below a certain temperature.
I'm grateful for mine. I shall treat myself to a nice box of chocolates. Thank you to all who have contributed. X
Sandy, you can get a very drinkable bottle of wine for a tenner surely?
There's another thread about this, it says if the bank statement shows the credit as XP, that's what it is.
sandy i want more than one bottle for that tenner.
chaps, this is Xmas Bonus not cold weather payments:-)
so do you have to be in receipt of your pension to get it?
Well I always thought so boxy, but last time I looked on the other thread bednobs said she got it but is not a pensioner - so not sure now.
I believe you have to be over 70 to get it.

One fish supper and a bottle of pop.
O I didn't know that ladybirder, don't think Dad does either. He just assumed it was part of cold weather payment! I'll tell him when I see him at the weekend.
i received mine, and most definitely not 70.. I think it comes if you get certain benefits..
nothing to do with cold weather payments.
All state pensioners get the £10 bonus. Only pensioners getting Pension credit get the cold weather payments..well according to the DWP site
Mazie, that's not correct on that site, then - I've deferred my state pension, I'm not claiming it yet, and I still get my cold weather payment.
£10 Christmas bonus, I think carers get it too
it's welcome that's all i know
