Why has it took the police 21 years to decide to dig up a mound of earth close to where the toddler went missing?

/// Ben's file was re-opened in May after JCB driver Konstantinos Barkas came forward to reveal he had been digging on the site when the boy went missing. ///

Even so that is 5 months ago.

That will pay me for not entering an obvious 'NEWS' item. into 'CHATTERBANK'.

Since this case is 21 years old, perhaps I should have also entered it in the 'HISTORY' topics?

I could easily have made the same mistake. I rarely go into Chatterbank and unless you are on AB 24/7 would not notice any postings.
I really don't know why it's taken so long but from reading today it seems there was supposedly 'definate' information given at the time by the family that the rubble had been there prior to ben disappearing. the further delay makes no sense either, but it's hopefully going to bring the sad events to a close for the lads family,
strange story, isn't it... and of course you're right to post it in News.
How much is all this costing? It's been 21 years, time to move on.

So glad that you put that Dave, rather than me.
You wouldn't say that if it were your child, Dave.
I was not aware that there was a time limit on how long we should maintain hope that a missing child turns up - better let the McCann's know that the clock is ticking.
